As a Research Director in the Infrastructure Software team, this analyst will apply broad knowledge of Storage trends and technologies (proprietary and open source software defined storage, backup/recovery, archiving, hyperconverged, data reduction, storage orchestration and management platforms, web-scale and cloud storage) specializing in vendor product marketing, product management, sales, route to market and business strategy.
This analyst will excel in understanding current Data Center Storage buyer wants and needs, with an objective ability to predict future buying, technology and supplier trends. This person will provide thought leading, strategic advice and insight relating to trends and technologies in the Data Center Storage market and its impact on customers, providers, revenues, go to marketing and sales strategies. The analyst will be statistically savvy, and able to lead and collaborate with their peers regarding the future of the Storage and Data Center markets. A key understanding of enterprise and IT Service provider next generation storage buyers and consumers will be a key advantage.
• Define and conduct research and produce written analysis, and be a leading contributor to forecast and visionary content.
• Perform research by reading, networking with Gartner clients, vendors and analysts, evaluating and analyzing information and participating in Research Meetings and other activities which comprise the Gartner research process.
• Identify and produce innovative, thought-leading, impactful, analytically-deep, fact-based research role-specific research to a planned schedule.
• Collaborate with peers and contribute thought-leadership in establishing company research positions.
• Actively contribute to/lead the Gartner research process by identifying critical issues facing Gartner clients and crafting appropriate research responses to address them, via tele and video conferencing, written research, recorded and in-person presentations.
• Represent Gartner research methodology, strategies and positions effectively at senior executive level within technology vendor, technology user, government, and investor organizations.
• Provide support to the sales organization to renew and develop business. Advise prospective and existing clients via telephone and/or face-to face and demonstrate Gartner research value.
• Prepare deliverable products (with their research component) in accordance with a schedule as well as responding to client consulting requests which cannot be planned for
• Determine specific subjects to research and present and develop accompanying deliverables and presentations
• Take fact-based positions on key issues.
Requirements
• 10+ years of experience working with storage, data center and infrastructure software technologies with comprehensive knowledge of Storage trends, technologies, and client needs. In addition to a broad understanding of Storage concepts and strategies the applicant should also hold one or more of the following areas of expertise :
o Backup and Recovery
o Archiving
o Software Defined Storage
o Open Source
o Cloud Storage
o Big data analytics
o Web-Scale IT
• Solid knowledge of Data Center and/or infrastructure software industry trends, business models, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape.
• Significant applicable experience to be knowledgeable about a particular market or industry and to be accepted by clients as an expert. The IT knowledge needed typically entails a deep understanding of the technology as well as the industry and the market of IT solutions, vendors, products and user strategies in specific area(s) of industry.
• Exceptional analytical skills; ability to apply conceptual models, recognizing patterns and drawing and defending conclusions. Ability to develop a fact-based research position and support that position to internal and external clients.
• Proven planning and project management skills.
• Articulate and succinct communication skills in English: Excellent presentation and writing skills.
• Ambitious, eager to learn about new technologies both inside and outside their field of expertise and willing to keep their finger on the pulse of the changing IT landscape to meet the demands of our customers
• Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively in remote and culturally diverse teams.
• Available to travel both domestically and internationally.
