Director Media Relations Fidelity Investments Durham

Job Description:
This position is part of the Corporate Media Relations team, which is responsible for managing external communications on a broad range of topics on behalf of the company. The corporate spokespeople on the team work with key national media to promote Fidelity’s business and corporate initiatives, protect the company’s reputation, coordinating with business unit communications professionals across the firm. In this position, you will work closely with senior leaders at Fidelity Charitable, and be responsible for developing and implementing a range of external communications strategies, programs and materials.

Primary Responsibilities
Serve as primary media spokesperson for Fidelity Charitable
Develop and execute media relations strategies, programs and materials to promote Fidelity Charitable, its initiatives and priorities, manage media inquiries, and protect its reputation.
Monitor the media environment (both traditional and social media) and manage proactive and reactive media communications for Fidelity Charitable, working in close partnership with its leadership team, and other Fidelity communications teams and stakeholders.
Provide strategic communications counsel to a range of internal stakeholders
Work with senior leaders at Fidelity Charitable, provide public relations counsel and insights on positioning, messaging and media strategies that will help build awareness, understanding and recognition for Fidelity Charitable.
Work with Marketing to develop a proactive, integrated PR plan aligned with marketing programs, product launches and other initiatives.
Develop comprehensive PR programs that successfully promote new capabilities, products and service offerings, and thought leadership initiatives. This will include creating messaging platforms, news releases, fact sheets, talking points, Q&As, videos, presentations, etc.
Establish clear goals for media/external communications programs for Fidelity Charitable and measure the effectiveness of these programs through share-of-voice and other analysis methods, including feedback from Fidelity Charitable and other internal stakeholders.
Desired Skills and Experience
Education and Experience
Experience with proactive and reactive PR required
A bachelor's degree is required, graduate degree preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of media relations/PR experience required
Experience as a media spokesperson
Experience with and expertise in use of social media tools strongly preferred
Financial services, philanthropic giving organization or related experience in large, highly regulated industries strongly preferred
PR agency and/or news media experience beneficial, but not required
Proven ability to effectively promote news and manage issues with the media
Experience interacting with management at all levels while maintaining a high level of confidentiality
Skills and Knowledge
Ability to develop and nurture strong relationships with the Fidelity Charitable leadership and other internal stakeholders; manage PR agency relationships; and provide communications counsel to Fidelity Charitable on a range of internal and external issues.
Ability to assess audiences to determine ideal communication plans, messaging and channels to get message across in the right way.
Outstanding oral and written skills with significant experience in writing: news releases, Q&As, media talking points, scripts, press statements etc.
Strong understanding of the news media and social media platforms and their relevance to external communications
Ability to explain complex concepts and details in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.
Plan and create communications that resonate with audiences across relevant communication channels.
Knowledge of philanthropic giving trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
Knowledge of reputation management practices, in both traditional and social media environments
Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with internal and external customers/clients.
Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, including management of PR agency, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve project objectives.
Knowledge of the variety of formats, styles, and techniques for developing and reviewing written materials.
High-energy, adaptable personality who enjoys working in fluid environments where change is constant and new opportunities present themselves every day
Ability to coach senior executives on media relations and messaging
Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
Knowledge of successful approaches, tools, and techniques for dealing with changes and adapting to a changing environment.
