The Director of File and Big Data Engineering, Next Generation Platform Development will drive HDS innovations in this field and oversee product innovation and development, leading to compelling differentiation in the markets in which HDS competes. This role is a key strategic role at HDS, a company that has continually redefined the storage industry and information management. The Director of File and Big Data Engineering, Next Generation Platform Development will work closely with leading technologists across One Hitachi to define and deliver cutting-edge Platform solutions. In this role, Director of File and Big Data Engineering, Next Generation Platform Development will also collaborate closely with multiple development organizations, the strategic planning group and the business units.
The position is best suited for an experienced person with a mix of technical and business background. Those skills will enable the success of implementing complex products across geographies and development teams.
Responsibilities:
The Director of File and Big Data Engineering is a key member of PPD’s senior management team, which defines and implements global, strategic engineering programs, and progresses alignment across engineering teams on a global level towards the company’s goals. The ideal candidate has to have the ability to influence and to lead change across a diverse set of executive stakeholders and business units in addition to influence without direct ownership.
Directing architecture definition, design and product development.
Ensure that products developed by the Hitachi Global Engineering team efficiently interact with other Hitachi portfolio offerings
A leadership (management) role in a next generation platform cross-cultural development team.
Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of a multi-team or cross-functional organization.
Establish strong culture and productive environment, achieve challenging organizational goals with sustainability.
Participate in the strategic decisions about technology, definition, and implementation of products.
Construct compelling product roadmaps and integration across the HDS/Hitachi product portfolio.
Manage relationships between planning, engineering, and research.
Collaborate on technology designs, coordinate execution and delivery, identify potential risks, and provide recommendations to executives as discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.
Communicate with and influencing stakeholders from across the engineering and business community.
Re-engineer fact finding (customer interview) and product definition phases aligning them to agile development practices.
Lead the specification and development effort of the comprehensive software, infrastructure, and application architectures with consideration to timelines, scalability, and globalization.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be strategic, highly technical, articulate and sophisticated communicator who can convey complex ideas and their impact.
This role calls for someone who can and will understand the essence of HDS’ and Hitachi’s current products and vision, and then enhance it through integrating it into the infrastructure and information cloud framework.
The candidate must also have proven experience understanding key product requirements from both customers and partners and translating them into actionable technology roadmaps. This role requires someone with the maturity to guide strong product developers and product managers by building enduring, long-term relationships.
Particularly critical to success in this role will be experience in one or more of the following areas:
Experience in successfully designing and developing infrastructure and data management tools for data centers
Experience in strategic technology planning and execution.
Extensive knowledge of enterprise information infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to apply technology solutions to business problems.
Ability to communicate ideas powerfully to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Hands-on experience with Hitachi Platform Solutions
Familiar with Hitachi Japan Development Process and Methodologies
Fluent in both English and Japanese
Outstanding interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with a deep understanding of the challenges working in global, cross-platform team
Demonstrated ability to Provide leadership to Engineering staff to ensure activities are performed optimally and in compliance with Company standards of quality and efficienc
Effective time-management skills for balancing significant relationships and alignment of projects
Proven track record in driving alignment and common goal agreements facing critical issues from diverse groups with conflicting perspectives
A solid understanding of development processes especially in a global economy
The ability to assess a complex, unstructured situation and define ways to standardize and optimize it through improved planning, process, and/or measurement

Knowledge & Experience
Minimum of 15-20 years’ experience in the technology field, and 10+ years working in storage solutions.
Ability to assist and guide the development managers and drive the successes of the projects through an in-depth understanding of the industry and customer environments.
Facilitate collaboration and coordination between all product development groups as related to operational project activities and strategies.
Solid background in technologies such as:
Enterprise Storage Solutions
File systems design (e.g. Unix file systems) including network file sharing protocols
OS kernel internals (e.g. Linux)
Distributed Systems
Computer Networks
Other Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
