Job Description:
The Business Development Director, Content Partnerships works closely with Blackboard’s Vice President Business Development and Content Partnerships and the entire Blackboard Business Development team to enhance Blackboard’s partnership strategy. This role has significant exposure to senior management and all corporate functions and business units.
The Business Development Director, Content Partnerships is responsible for identifying, prioritizing and pursuing new and existing opportunities with key domestic and international content and technology partners with a focus on content providers.
Primary responsibilities include:
Taking ownership of negotiating and closing complex deals that benefit Blackboard, as well as our key clients and partners, including integration, OEM, and distribution agreements
Partnering closely with leaders in Finance, Sales, Marketing, Product Engineering and other internal departments to understand their strategic priorities and creatively identify partnership opportunities to support those priorities
Managing day-to-day relationships with marquee partners and developing a deep understanding of their products and long-term business strategies
Developing marketing plans, business plans, sales strategies, and action plans for identified opportunities and clearly defining objectives, goals, strategies, schedules, and action assignments for defined market with partner or content opportunity
Championing Blackboard’s vision for learning with partners
Helping partner marketing build and manage comprehensive demand creation and technology adoption programs that drive partner solution adoption while supporting cross-vertical business priorities
Tracking metrics to analyze and track performance of partner initiatives, and using data to optimize strategic planning and gain in-depth knowledge of client and partner needs
As appropriate represent Blackboard at industry events, conferences, and meetings as partner representative
Professional Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline, with an MBA strongly preferred, or equivalent work experience
Minimum 10-15 years of business experience in the software or higher education industry preferred. Experience sourcing, selling, or developing / managing higher education digital or print published content is an absolute advantage
Financial Acumen: able to either personally model or inform financial analyses to determine appropriate option development, break even analysis, overall deal sizing and dynamics
Analytical skills, strong ability to work with numbers, generating reports and statistical data, ability to interpret that data and in turn identify problems, opportunities, trends and develop solutions
Historical track record of meeting/exceeding sales quotas, marketing and or product management-oriented targets, or partnership deal development
A great communicator! Must be able to present in compelling and fluent ways to both internal and external audiences / stake-holders
Ability to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization, in both a team and independent environment and at all levels of the organization
Willingness to challenge the status quo to drive significant increases in high-margin, recurring revenue
Proven ability to independently negotiate and close complex deals
