Director Development The Salvation Army Greenville

Job Description:
Responsible to the Area Commander and Area Command Operations Director for supportive service to Area Command programs through the Development Department. Responsible for the volunteer program which utilizes selected volunteers in assisting program staff in client services, emergency response preparedness and special projects. Also responsible for the cultivation of donors to ensure continued growth in The Salvation Army support.
Implements and follows through on tasks involving the immediate and medium range financial needs of The Salvation Army in Greenville including cash contributions from the top 100-150 existing donors currently on the mailing list.

Working in conjunction with the Area Command Operations Director, the Development Department ensures community resources are solicited to assist social services and youth programs using public relations, media, and written materials including but not limited to program information materials or brochures, newsletters, mail appeals, special events materials and other solicitations.

Focus on engaging local community within the mission of The Salvation Army here at the Greenville, SC Area Command. Cultivating relationships, empowering service to others and providing a platform for individual growth through a discipleship model.

Required Experience

Five (5) years' experience in performing donor cultivation and fund-raising functions through all forms of media with experience as a guest speaker OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy. Knowledge of Christian theology and The Salvation Army doctrine. Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and media relations. Knowledge of acceptable fund raising methods and strategies. Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate fund-raising events including direct mail campaigns. Ability to administer a budget and monitors expenditures for compliance with the same. Ability to prepare and maintains reports in an accurate and complete manner. Ability to research funding sources and to prepare grant proposals. Ability to build effective relationships with donors, Advisory Board members and Council members. Ability to prepare and maintain up-to-date donor records, reports, and databases.

Mental/Physical Abilities

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television. Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications or a related field.

Compensation

Salary range of $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 depending on education/experience of qualified candidate.
