Director Standards Practices Discovery Communications New York City

Job Description
The Director, Discovery Family Channel Standards & Practices is responsible for evaluation, clearance and tracking of original, acquired and National and Direct response commercial content and in house marketing submitted to air on Discovery Family Channel to ensure material complies with all Federal regulations including; FCC, FTC, CTA, CARU, COPPA regulations, Discovery Communications’ corporate S&P guidelines and industry best practices and obligations. Additionally, the Director, Discovery Family Channel S&P will review and provide S&P feedback on content directed to children and families scheduled to air on Discovery Family Channel.

Position will be based in New York, Silver Spring or Los Angeles

Responsibilities

Oversee Commercial Clearance and Programming Standards process for Discovery Family Channel- including policy creation, work flow and evaluation of commercial content including: national ad sales, direct response advertising and internal marketing campaigns and promotion.
Communicate concerns to Ad Sales, outside ad agencies and internal marketing teams
Work directly with Ad Sales, Commercial Operations, Scheduling and Marketing teams to ensure advertising and promotions meet FCC, FTC, CTA, CARU and COPPA requirements
Evaluate original and acquired content -from concept to cuts -- directed to children and families on DFC and other Discovery owned nets to address S&P and regulatory concerns, ensuring content complies with regulatory and internal corporate guidelines
Communicating S&P notes to creative and programming executives, and assigning TV parental ratings and schedule margins
Work in tandem with VP, S & P to create, modify and educate Discovery networks’ development, programming and Ad Sales teams on S&P concerns and policies
Manage and train Standards support staff on identifying problematic material, working with clients, generating creative solutions and elevating appropriate appeals
Ability to backup other S&P team members on Commercial Clearance or Program review across DCI portfolio
Interface with channel clients at meetings, events and tapings
Communicate potential issues in programming and advertisements to appropriate managers, Business & Legal Affairs, Government Affairs, Press and Sales
Research and communicate Standards issues in the press on our brands as well as in the industry at large
Other duties as assigned, including covering S&P requirements for other Discovery networks.

Requirements

Strong MS Outlook and MS Office skills (PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
Minimum of five years in Children’s television standards and practices required
Three years prior Management experience required
Strong prioritizing abilities as well as strong communications skills, both oral and written.
Ability to work closely with a wide range of staff at all levels.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Relocation will not be offered for this role
Legal right to work in the US
imovie or Final Cut Pro editing skills preferred
Fluent Spanish language a plus
