Director Safety Engineering Apple Santa Clara

Job Description
Apple's Hardware Engineering organization is seeking a senior leader to lead the Safety Engineering program for Apple’s world-class consumer electronics products. The candidate will work closely with Apple’s Product Design, Electrical Engineering, Legal, Marketing and Customer Support teams to help drive validation of adherence to regulations, as well to understand and mitigate risk associated with various customer scenarios.

Key Qualifications
Technical leader with deep understanding of Product Safety, with minimum 10 years of safety engineering leadership in Consumer Electronics.
Demonstrated ability to assimilate technical information and effectively communicate risks to technical and non-technical audience

Deep understanding of Safety agency regulations and standards with track record of meeting & exceeding test standards across multiple consumer products
Ability to develop short and long term strategic and operating plans for new product development, risk management, and field events
Ability to influence and negotiate across all levels of the organization
Ability to guide, mentor and develop staff members and successors to key positions within the Safety department
Effective leadership and team facilitation skills to motivate team members to drive risk management strategic imperatives and to meet goals and objectives
Effectively cultivate an active network of working relationships within and outside of the organization
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including proven verbal, written, and presentation skills used to craft & deliver issue status to executive management
Demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment


Description

This position is offered in Apple’s Product Safety group within Apple's Hardware Engineering division. Our mission is to ensure that Apple products are safe for use throughout the world and comply with worldwide safety requirements.

Candidate will be responsible for strategic direction, leadership, improving the infrastructure to support future growth, harmonizing key business processes and optimizing process efficiency. Will provide regulatory interpretation and guidance to ensure company systems are aligned with current regulatory requirements, standards and industry trends. Will work closely with cross-functional leaders on high-visibility field escalations and will proactively lead safety risk assessments associated with such escalations.

Will develop strategy to address safety requirements and challenges, and implement lessons learned from field failures into new product development. Will effectively communicate safety requirements and risks to resolve safety issues during new product development.

Education

Bachelors Degree in EE, ME or Materials Science
Masters Degree EE, ME or Materials Science is preferred
