Director Vans Environmental Design The North Face Cypress


Job description
The Director of Environmental Design leads the creative development of clear and consistent merchandise presentation strategy and direction including the In-Store marketing/signage “story telling” strategy for successful execution in the field. This role contributes to the success of VANS by leading the effort in developing the overall seasonal visual presentation strategies, standards and requirements for all retail and wholesale store environments. The Director of Environmental Design is responsible for leading a team of talented designers and building strong partnerships, working collaboratively with internal and external teams.
The Director of Environmental Design must be highly creative with a proven track record with strong merchandising and presentation skills as well as exceptional oral and written communication skills. S/he must have the ability to problem solve and develop creative solutions even in ambiguous situations. This role reports to the Senior Director Global Environmental Design.Establish control-related standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
Create and direct visual merchandise strategies through partnership with the Sr Director to ensure efforts bring the brand to life in Vans owned retail stores and key wholesale accounts within the Americas region with some globally influence/responsibility (i.e. store design, display development, environment, etc.)
Lead the creative development process with key partners, Marketing and Product key leaders. Responsible for ensuring that all deadlines for the department are met and the department workload is managed.
Develop and maintain an effective working process that aligns cross functional teams.
Collaborate with the EMEA,APAC regional global visual merchandising teams on executing and implementing impactful seasonal visuals.
Responsible for maintaining, building and developing a staff that yields teamwork, high productivity, and cost effective results.

Education/Experience
Years of Related Professional Experience: 10+years.
10+ years of experience of leading in-house creative teams and/or visual merchandising management experience with a specialty apparel/footwear retailer, preferably one with a global presence
Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred Corporate visual merchandising management experience with prior responsibility managing and influencing teams across the US, for a full fleet of stores
Experience collaborating with and influencing cross function teams (marketing, product teams, merchandising, and store operations).

Skills
Product presentation expert with experience building seasonal layout plans
Exceptional leadership ability with an eye for design and styling, with
demonstrated success in visual merchandising, innovation and implementation
Strong ability to communicate ideas and lead teams from conception to
implementation
Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and
projects concurrently
Excellent written and verbal skills Strong management qualities: approaches work with a mindset of collaboration, develops effective working relationships within the team, department and cross-functional team members, inspires Design team and fosters a creative and inspiring environment
Ability to communicate effectively to all levels within the organization and
manage conflict, while seeking mutually beneficial solutions
Strength in-group presentation skills and ability to develop quality innovative presentations
Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite, Sketchup, Adobe
Suite, (or equivalent design software) required

Special Requirements
Travel - approximately 30-50%
Available to work and travel flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
