Director Solution Engineering D-Link Orange County


Job description
Director - Solution Engineering is the manager of the sales engineering team. This person will also serve as the primary technical representative during the presales process working with the west coast sales team to drive and manage the technology evaluation and architectural stages of the sales process. This person will also serve as a mentor and assist on opportunities in other territories. Candidates should have deep experience with wired and wireless networking solutions, and will be expected to bring architectural and deployment expertise to the sales process, have a strong working knowledge of post sales problem solving tools and techniques, and provide appropriate senior management guidance on issues related to technologies, processes, tools and the competitive networking landscape.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for driving deeper level technical requirements during sales process in order to scope and build out the solution.
Responsible for performing necessary research of third-party technologies, tools, and products that are part of the competitive landscape.
Responsible for setting overall direction of sales engineering activities, tools, training and processes.
Responsible for working with all departments in the company to drive optimal outcomes for our customers. Important relationships will be with product management and technical support.
Working with our partners, defining project scope, designing initial high level solution architecture, and estimating level of effort.
Assisting in writing and reviewing Proposals, Statements of Work, and RFPs.
Available to represent the company in conference settings, speaking engagements, webinars, and will contribute to crafting of marketing and technical publications.
PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

Ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in networking technologies and comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a national brand and significant customers. Candidate must be organized and analytical, able to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches, and be able to handle multiple projects. Candidate should have experience managing a team. Additional preferred qualifications are:

B.S. degree preferred, though real world hands on experience will be required
8+ years of experience with architecture and implementation of networking projects
A working knowledge of the vendor ecosystem in networking and wireless solutions
Working knowledge of security, video surveillance, and storage is a plus
Candidate should be able to spell VMware, know trends in the cloud market, and generally be able to have broad environmental conversations with prospects
You would never say it, but you are usually the smartest person in the room
Strong presentation and communication skills
Willingness to travel throughout sales territories (up to 50%)
REQUIRED LOCATION:

The position must be based in our Orange County US headquarters, relocation is not available
