Director - Risk Management - MetLife - New York


Job description
This position is responsible for a wide range of functions specific to the Risk and Insurance Programs of MetLife Global Corporate Risk Management.
Support the Vice President of Global Corporate Risk Management in diverse and effective Corporate Risk Management programs.
Responsible for the collection of underwriting exposure data, completion of applications and obtaining internal approval for Executive Risk and Professional Corporate Liability Programs.

Direct responsibility for the Executive Risk and Professional Liability claims reporting and administration.
Direct involvement in the decision process and management of contract review, litigation/claims, loss prevention, and coverage interpretation of MetLife global catastrophic risk management and insurance programs.
Act as an advisor to internal MetLife business groups and subsidiaries in protecting the corporation while communicating frequently with internal business partners, vendor representatives, sales associates, and proposal professionals in MetLife’s requirements and responses in marketing various benefit programs and setting standards for vendors.
Responsible for the performance and professional development of staff risk consultant(s) who assist in analyzing and planning insurance programs and engaging in various risk related projects.
Principal Responsibilities
Control the assembly of all required worldwide liability underwriting exposure information for accuracy, completeness, and consistency and prepare applications/submissions to be delivered to underwriters for renewal and marketing of major Executive Risk/Professional Liability programs to achieve the best structure, renewal terms, coverage and cost.
Analyze coverage provisions and evaluate trends in insurance market conditions.
Total responsibility for all Executive Risk and Professional Liability claims/litigation, beginning with the evaluation and timely reporting to all possible insurers, including the direct management of and control of the Risk Consultant involved in claims.
Evaluate alternative proposals, communicate objectives, determine the optimum risk transfer solution, and participate in presentations to report results.

Competencies Required
Comprehensive knowledge of executive risk lines of insurance, including the underwriting process, policy terms and structure.
Understanding the risks of publicly held corporations as well as the process to effectively transfer the risk in the insurance market. Extensive experience in the management of claims relating to these coverages, as well as indemnification clauses, additional insured positioning and coverage disputes.
Knowledge of litigation procedures, policy reporting requirements, and insurance specifications for a wide variety of Requests for Proposals, agreements, and vendor contracts.
Excellent analytical, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with all levels of management.
Desired Competencies
Five plus years of experience in management liability types of insurance coverage.
Corporate liability and individual Directors’ & Officers’ risk exposure experience in publicly held financial institutions.
Understanding and comprehensive knowledge of the financial products distribution process, mutual funds/series funds, and investment techniques and transactions.
Knowledge of the evaluation, creation and administration of a captive insurer or other risk financing solutions.
Percent Travel Time: 5-10%
