Job Description
Monsanto is seeking a Director of Enterprise Data to accelerate our digital transformation and intelligently connect Monsanto, our business partners and customers within an emerging digital agriculture. In this role you will ensure Monsanto manages, integrates and utilizes data to maximize the data’s value to our business both now and in the future. You will assist the business in data driven initiatives, with a particular focus on project initiation and implementation.
To be successful, you will develop relationships with a wide range of decision makers, data strategy leads and forward-positioned data managers across R&D, Supply Chain and Commercial. You will also work with our engineering team to support an enterprise-wide platform that allows Monsanto to efficiently collect, integrate and access data developed as part of our global business and shared by our partners and customers.
Execute An Enterprise Wide, Multi-year, Data Strategy Designed To Enhance And Protect Monsanto’s Position As The Leading Agricultural Company In The World. The Ultimate Aim Being The Access To High Quality Data Assets To Support Monsanto’s Transformation As a Digital Services Company. This Element Of The Role Includes
• Constantly scanning for new data sources, partners, paradigms, technologies and methods that could generate valuable data for Monsanto;
• Identifying and prioritizing data needs across the enterprise having consulted widely within Monsanto's global functions and regions;
• Considering the full range of potential sources of data including, but not limited to, data from internal platforms, shared B2B data, data shared by customers, data from imagery sources, IoT platforms, governmental data;
• Making business cases for acquisition of data recognizing both direct and immediate value but also the longer term benefits of owning data e.g. “data as an asset”;
• Propose and develop frameworks to manage data in lakes, sandboxes and factories;
• Propose and develop capability to access applicable data from the web and social media;
• Regularly review of the portfolio of data assets and make recommendations for life cycle management
• Recognizing, understanding and managing within the legal and ethical frameworks that exist in Monsanto's markets;
• Continue to earn the trust and deliver mutual value with data sharing partners.
Work To Ensure Maximum Value From Data Driven Initiatives In Particular Through The Initiation And Implementation Stages, For Example
• Ensuring datasets being used for analyses are regularly enhanced through linkage;
• Assisting with the creation of the final proposals to business partners including a focus on making implementation as easy as possible;
• Maintains regular communications, supports and co-ordinates with the activities of other data managers globally.
Acts As Leader And a Subject Matter Expert Within Monsanto In The Area Of Data And Data Strategy. This Includes
• Fostering and driving a strong data-driven culture globally;
• Serving as a thought-leader and participate in special projects, committees, meetings and presentations as required;
• Curating the data acquisition process within Monsanto, including how we obtain authorization for projects;
• Seeks out, develops and fosters partnerships with external parties that could support Monsanto’s current and future data acquisition strategy. Such partnerships could take a range of forms e.g. joint ventures, strategic partnerships, acquisition opportunity.
Build Monsanto's Corporate Profile, Maximize Value From Data Projects And Contribute To Monsanto's Engagement Efforts By
• Delivering presentations at industry meetings and to clients at appropriate locations globally;
• Presenting research findings through various outlets including webcasts and internal or external publications;
• Attending, and actively participating in, seminars and conferences of interest to Monsanto;
• Develop a deep understanding of the needs and practices of the different markets in which Monsanto operates;
• Continue to develop and acquire the skills, knowledge and network necessary to provide a potential succession line for CIO.
Full-time
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Statistics or other Science field
• 10+ years of experience in a data and/or analytics field
• 3+ years of experience successfully building and leading people
• Willingness to travel internationally on a frequent basis (4 or more trips per year)
Preferred
• Knowledge of the data-ecosystem in multiple countries
• Knowledge of IoT and/or geospatial data management
• Experience in global Agriculture

• Expert knowledge of the data eco-system in Agriculture
• Understanding of product, customer, geospatial, social media, financial and supply chain data domains
Technical Skills
• Knowledge of the application of fit for purpose data technologies in a polyglot environment, including but not limited to Hadoop, NoSQL, Kafka and Graph technologies.
• Experience managing traditional data stores such as SAP and SQL is also required.
• Advanced data management and manipulation skills.
