Director - Manufacturing Engineering - Johnson & Johnson - Somerville
Job description
Currently recruiting for a Director of Manufacturing Engineering to be seated at one of the following sites, Somerville, New Jersey, Athens, Georgia or Puerto Rico.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Vice President - Operations, Global Surgery Group, J&J Supply Chain, the Director of Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for leading and directing engineering and technology activities in alignment with site, cluster and sector objectives.
He/She provides overall leadership to the engineering group, setting operational strategies, establishing business focused goals and objectives, and continued talent development of both Line Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering. This position leads the engineering teams across the ETHICON manufacturing sites, worldwide.
Major Responsibilities
In this role, the Director of Manufacturing Engineering will deploy technical solutions. He/she will develop capability to coordinate and leverage talent and best practices in Engineering & Technology. Key areas of focus will include (1) Talent Development and leverage across sites (2) Project Management for quality and efficiency improvement, CIP, process upgrades and replacements, (3) Tactical deployment of “technology roadmaps” (4) Base business product management, (5) Support of Business Continuity Planning, (6) Support of Operation Capital Spending Plan, and (7) Support of the business Strategic and Business Planning processes.
Scope of Responsibilities
Leadership
Provide technical leadership to the manufacturing organization at the respective sites with respect to product/ process design and functionality. Retains the relationship with the franchise engineering organization to ensure constant collaboration.
Talent
Responsible for all technical talent development. Ensures leveraging of talent and solutions. Recruit develop, manage, and motivate highly trained technical professionals to ensure an effective work force
Strategy
Steers Collaboration with internal and external partners to drive execution. Ensures scope projection of tasks including compliance and quality improvement, cost reduction, cycle time reduction, capacity increase, and raw material qualification. Develop, in partnership with advanced engineering, technology roadmaps and continually evaluate new innovative processes for competitive advantage
Process
Provides support, development and training of subordinates to meet "state of the art" approaches to business requirements. Ensures personal motivation of staff to create an innovative work environment. Reviews and coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, and resolves engineering design and test problems. Manages technical issue escalation process.
Design and implement processes that provide for a high level of internal customer satisfaction. Ensure that employees are trained and equipped with the tools to perform their jobs successfully. Drive best practices in engineering design and automation. Evaluate and implement improved Manufacturing Engineering performance, management, and tracking methods to monitor and control costs that will allow the company to complete projects on time and under budget. Established common technical standards, software systems and capital equipment. Develop and manage to expense and capital budgets per our strategic forecasts. Ensure compliance in all aspects of Environmental, Health and Safety per J&J standards
Job Function
Engineering (Generalist)
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Science Discipline with a minimum of 12 years overall business experience is required. An advanced degree, such as an MS or an MBA is preferred.
Strong Leadership experience is required with the ability to lead a Cross-Sector Global organization is required for this role. The ability and experience in developing individuals within an organization is required for this position.
Ability to translate engineering goals and objectives into successful strategies that lead to tactical plans is requirement. Experience in utilize customer-focused decision making is required.
Change management, project management and the ability to work effectively and drive alignment in a global environment through strong communication and empowerment preferred.
Must demonstrate working knowledge of process development and validation, including design of experiments, statistical analysis are required.
Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in bridging technical and business disciplines, evaluating and determining appropriate risks is required.
Multi-plant experience with a focus on global markets is required.
Deep knowledge continuous improvement tools, lean manufacturing and six-sigma preferred. Equipment Maintenance is preferred.
Product cost management and budget management is a requirement for this role.
Ability to shape strategy and create plans for the future is a requirement.
