Job description
The Role
Tesla is looking for a Health and Safety Leader to design and construct the safety processes and programs at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The goal of the Health and Safety Leader is to ensure a safe and secure factory environment for all staff and visitors. This individual will build, lead and manage a Health and Safety operations team for Tesla. One of the main goals for this position is to develop security and environmental health and safety programs.
This individual will be responsible for complex technical work in a wide range of Health and Safety disciplines. By developing, implementing and maintaining programs, the Health and Safety Leader will help create and streamline the systems and procedures necessary to ensure the overall health and safety of Tesla Employees. The ideal candidate works well on both self-initiated projects and those driven by concerns and issues reported by employees.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement and maintain Environment, Health and Safety policies, plans and procedures.
Maintain and report EH&S metrics, stats and records to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
Serve as lead on the Facilities Emergency Response Team.
Serve as chairman of EH&S–related committee (safety committee) team.
Develop, implement, update facilities Emergency Response Plans and training.
Conduct EH&S compliance audits, self-assessments and inspections throughout the facilities.
Conduct chemical and MSDS risk assessments as well as operational risk assessments specific to Engineering controls.
Responsible for Global Safety program development and business continuity planning.
Accident/incident investigation and statistical reporting.
Lead development of foundational operations security programs.
Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
Apply technical expertise to the proper maintenance of the work environment in accordance with regulations.
Oversee matters related to safety, compliance monitoring, reporting and auditing.
Interface with various regulatory agencies while hosting, documenting, responding to and tracking audits and inspections.
Drive continuous improvement programs.
Conduct training on general safety, fire hazards and occupational injury prevention.
Provide technical Expertise on operations design and safety procedures.
Specific duties include hazard identification, corrective action follow-up and overall coordination of Site Safety activities, programs, and corporate initiatives to ensure the safety of site workers and the general public. In addition, be responsible for conducting on site safety inspections to ensure compliance.
Desired Skills and Experience
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, EH&S or equivalent.
Health and Safety certifications and ergonomics experience preferred, specifically Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, and a Master’s in Public Health.
Hands on experience in heavy industrial, raw materials, or manufacturing work environment.
Current on up-to-date regulations such as such: NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety, Arc Flash, ANSI Standards, NIOSH, LOTO, GHS, SDS, MSDS, OSHAS18001, Asbestos/Lead, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, x-ray, laser, OSHA 500/501, 510, Emergency Response, Incident Command and Business Continuity.
Experience creating a safety management system from the ground floor.
Experience in Safety, Risk management and Business Continuity planning.
Experience developing programs in the areas of emergency preparedness/response and crisis management.
Experience with training and educating company employees in Health and Safety initiatives.
