Position Summary

This position is responsible for leadership and management of Geosciences Services processes, programs that affect safe, reliable operation of theDiablo Canyon facilities, as well as all other PG&E facilities, especially hydro-power plants, with regard to earthquake and geologic hazards and risks.



The Director must be able to travel at least 25% of the time with overnight stays.

Reporting Relationship

The Director, Geosciences and his/her team supports DCPP, Hydro Generation and the Electrical and Gas Operations organizations. The Director reports directly to the Director, Technical Services at DCPP and leads a team ofapproximately 14 Seismologists, Geologists, and Geotechnical Engineers. This position is based in San Francisco.

Minimum Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years of related experience in seismology, geology, or related engineeringdiscipline
• Bachelor’s degree in seismology, geology, or related engineering discipline

Desired Qualifications

• Power plant experience
• Meet regulatory requirements for Engineering Director (this includes FSAR, TechnicalSpecifications, and ANSI requirements).
• Advanced degree or PhD in seismology, geology or related engineering discipline.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to lead Diablo Canyon Engineering andTechnical Services organizations to industry-leading performance and effectively manage safety, risk and long term operations of all PG&E facilities relative to earthquake and geologic hazards.

• Provide leadership and strategic direction toEngineering and Technical Services leadership team to achieve consistently high levels of performance.

• Provide oversight of key performance indicators to ensure business plan objectives are met. Administer and oversee all programs and processes insupport of Engineering and Technical Services, including budget and cost monitoring, recruitment and staffing, work control, outage planning and performance improvement/corrective actions.

• Provide Geosciences expertise to PG&E business lines toassure effective emergency response to earthquake events.

• Supervise a team of Seismologists, Geologists, Geotechnical Engineers and related support staff and ensure tools and processes are in place to effectively manage evolving workload withinestablished due dates and budgets.
