Director - Brand Strategy - AT&T - Dallas


Job description
The Director of Brand Strategy role will partner with and provide expert counsel to Business Unit managers and their teams to both develop and execute “move the needle” brand strategies that support and accelerate the company's business goals - while building equity in a world-class AT&T brand.


The Brand Strategy team is focused on identifying and defining strategies that enable the AT&T brand to anticipate and deliver on customer needs, perceptions and motivations that are critical to driving stronger customer relationships that contribute to growth. Our approach to strategy focuses on combining deep customer insights (and analytics) with a pragmatic, operationally-focused approach to problem-solving.

As part of the Global Marketing Organization, the team operates in a Center of Excellence model by delivering brand strategy expertise and services to internal clients that include business unit and functional leaders across the company. Brand Strategy Directors work tirelessly to develop new strategic frameworks, case studies and methods for stakeholders to digest (and fully understand) the downstream impact of various brand strategy decisions. Directors also share responsibility with peers for building, managing and developing a team of internal experts who serve as the company's brain trust regarding all brand strategy decisions, topics, and questions. Examples of typical internal client engagements include developing value propositions and positionings for new/existing brands, architecting brand portfolio strategies across multiple brands/products, and using the AT&T brand to help define/transform customer experiences.

Brand Strategy Directors are expected to own and be accountable for 3-4 project commitments concurrently, while also contributing to additional team initiatives that align to organizational commitments. Projects frequently involve collaboration in cross-enterprise virtual teams comprised of but not limited to Marketing, Business Unit and vendor/agency stakeholders. Directors are expected to lead through influence with the ability to build stakeholder support for recommendations through the effective application of insight, expertise and supporting evidence to drive effective management decision-making.

The Ideal Candidate Is An Accomplished Marketer That Has a Breadth Of Marketing Experience (from Strategic Planning To Go-to-market Execution, From Brand/product Management To Marketing Communications), As Well As Relevant Expertise In Strategic Brand Building (demonstrated Through a Proven Track Record Of Managing World-class Brands At a Company, Business Unit Or Product Level). Additional Keys To Success Include

Demonstrated strength managing and collaborating in virtual teams
Fluency in corporate objectives, business objectives, and product and technology strategies
Great at rallying partners and external agencies to do the best work of their career. Ability to build strong collaborative relationships with a diverse range of partners.
Excellent communication skills and the proven ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization
Ability to shape and harness qualitative and quantitative research to drive good decision-making
Ability to simply and effectively communicate complex concepts and research outputs
Strategic understanding of the relationship between brands and a wide range of marketing communications and customer touch points
Ability to assimilate business group strategy and objectives and develop brand programs that support business goals
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects in an enterprising atmosphere that requires resourcefulness, flexibility, tenacity and patience.
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-management skills
Acumen at working in a consultative or advisory capacity at all levels of top-tier organizations
Ability to advise on both B2B and B2C branding/marketing strategy
Ability to teach and mentor more junior colleagues, helping them learn new skills and methodologies
Requires working experience within sophisticated management and operational systems common in larger companies and the ability to operate effectively within a matrix environment, where influencing and relationship-building skills are essential

Strategic Leadership and Business Acumen

The Director Will Need To Have Or Quickly Develop a Keen Understanding Of AT&T's Business Strategies, Models And Key Offerings And Be Able To Contribute Valuable Customer Insights, Competitor Intelligence And Branding Solutions To The Discourse. He/she Will Do This By

Demonstrating a clear passion for the category and technology and a willingness to immerse him/herself fully in the details of the company's businesses
Accessing existing or developing new customer and competitor research to quickly gain a deep understanding and new insights of customers, their wants and needs and how AT&T can deliver against these versus its competitors - as well as developing a deep understanding of the levers that impact NPS measurement (scores) across AT&T businesses
Expertise in defining information needs, fact finding and data analysis to support strategic problem solving and sound decision-making.

The Director Will Work Closely With Various Business Unit Leaders & Their Teams, Strategists And Marketers, And Numerous Peers In Marketing To Define, Deliver And Execute The Brand Strategy.
