Senior Director - Transactions - Johnson & Johnson - Menlo Park
Job description
The Senior Director, Transactions will have responsibility for all aspects of structuring and negotiating collaborations between J&J and potential partners in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer sectors. This position reports to the Transactions Team Lead.
Responsibilities
Proactively interface with the healthcare community in the Bay Area to develop strong relationships with the constituents of the innovation ecosystem and to ensure J&J Innovation is top-of-mind and positively regarded.
Work alongside other internal team members and potential team members to structure, negotiate and execute transactions using a collaborative win-win approach; bring a high level of creativity and professionalism to the deal process. In collaboration with scientific leads, develop and present business case analysis to key internal constituencies. Get deals done. Manage and drive all aspects of deal process in collaboration with other team members to rapid and successful completion. Help establish and maintain a positive, creative, high energy and fun working environment. Foster a proactive “can-do” culture of shared responsibility where team members collaborate to solve problems. Think about, develop and present on innovative new methods for outreach and interaction with the healthcare ecosystem. Propose, develop and lead key initiatives to help J&J accomplish its mission of catalyzing innovation.
The Senior Director, Transactions is responsible for developing and executing transactions with diverse industry participants, including biotech companies, venture capital, non-profit organizations, governments, and academic institutions to access pre-human proof of concept innovation. This position will build a regional network to access and on-board global collaboration, licensing and acquisition opportunities that will influence global business growth. The Innovation Centers are a significant source of innovation opportunities and are an integral part of J&J’s long-term success
Requirements
BA/BS is required and an MA/MS/MBA/JD is preferred. A minimum of 8 years of professional experience is required. 5+ years experience in business experience (preferably Healthcare) industry is required with 2 years of deal-making in the healthcare industry.
A track record of leading, negotiating and successfully executing complex deals. Extensive experience in negotiation and a demonstrated ability to negotiate fair deal terms at a fast pace while developing a collegial, collaborative relationship with potential partners. Understand of financial deal modeling, including how different deal structures affect NPV, IRR and deal splits. Ability to collaborate closely with other team members including scientific leads, legal, finance, marketing, and commercial to progress and complete transactions. Is organizationally savvy - knows how to navigate a large organization to produce results, yet is also a hands-on self-starter who can work in an entrepreneurial environment. S/he must possess strong interpersonal abilities, presence, and gravitas. Outstanding conversational, presentation, negotiation, and written communication skills. S/he must be self-motivated and passionate about driving deals to a successful conclusion and delivering quality results. S/he must be a consummate team player with the ability to inspire confidence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. S/he must have willingness to take on responsibility for helping to develop and strengthen the shared culture. S/he must be a creative problem solver, with the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
The Senior Director, Transactions must be a strategic thinker with big picture orientation with a high attention to detail. S/he must have intellectual curiosity, sense of urgency, self-awareness and adaptability.
This position is located in Menlo Park, CA, and requires willingness to travel (both domestically & internationally) up to 30% of the time.
