Job description
Medscape is seeking a highly-qualified and experienced medical editor/writer to support development of medical education content (i.e., CME/CE). The Scientific Director is responsible for developing CME/CE activities for professional audiences that will be published on the Medscape.org site. Medscape Education activities seek to improve the knowledge, competence, and performance of healthcare professionals. This position requires extensive interaction with external faculty (i.e., clinical and patient care experts) and includes collaboration with cross-functional internal teams including production, sales, medical strategy, program delivery and analytics.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of important clinical issues, major publications, clinical practice guidelines, advancements, approved therapeutic drugs and regimens, therapeutic pipelines, and industry trends in the field of dermatology to guide content development of CME/CE activities;
Quickly acquire up-to-date knowledge of other therapeutic area(s), as needed;
Interpret quantitative and qualitative research data/findings;
Develop educational content consistent with CME industry regulations and requirements for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists;
Collaborate with directors of medical strategy and directors of medical education to develop grant proposals by determining the appropriateness and feasibility of the proposed educational plan in assigned therapeutic areas;
Collaborate with internal team members and external educational partners (e.g., academic institutions, professional societies, nonprofit organizations) and vendors (outcome study development and analysis partners) to plan and execute certified educational content for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists;
Recruit the most appropriate faculty for assigned projects;
Develop and maintain professional relationships with thought-leaders and clinical experts in assigned therapeutic areas, who function as faculty/authors (or advisors for) of Medscape original content that is consistent with the goals, objectives, and focus described in grant proposals; ( established faculty relationships in dermatology are helpful but not required );
Conduct small-group meetings in person and via teleconference of internal Medscape team members, faculty, steering committees, collaborative partners, vendors;
Prepare faculty for the development of multimedia projects by drafting content outlines, and intervening when necessary during videotaping/audiotaping;
Edit (clinical edit and line edit) content received from faculty/authors and medical writers for organization, clarity, medical accuracy, alignment with grant proposal vision, and appropriateness for the target learner audience;
Write high-level assessment questions for educational posttests and outcome assessments designed to measure learning and educational effectiveness;
Deliver assignments according to specified timelines;
Learn and use Medscape project tracking tools, templates, and processes
Function independently in all of the above.
Advanced degree (e.g., MD, DO, MN, MS, MPH, PharmD, PhD) in a clinical field (e.g., medicine, nursing, pharmacy) or scientific field preferred; candidates with extensive appropriate experience considered
3-5 years related work experience preferably in a large medical education and/or medical communications company, and/or professional medical publisher, although will consider similar experience within an academic institution or medical society
Substantial knowledge of clinical medicine is helpful, with specialized experience in assigned therapeutic areas; experience in content development, clinical writing and editing
It is strongly preferable for the candidate to live in commuting distance to New York City. Candidate must be willing to travel
Travel, estimated 10% to 30%
REQUIRED SKILL SET
Advanced skill level in Microsoft Word and Outlook
Basic skill level in PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
Ability to direct studio staff to make necessary edits to media files
Ability to work on shared networks
Ability to learn/use software systems (e.g. At Task, SharePoint, Sales Force)
Organizational skills, effective time management, and ability to prioritize effectively
Effective written and verbal communication, as well as skilled question writing
Editorial skills*: developmental, substantive/structural, stylistic, rewriting
