Director - IT Business Intelligence - Amtrak - Washington

Summary Of Duties
The Director IT Business Intelligence (BI) is responsible for supervising Amtrak's design and development and management of BI data assets and technology. This position will develop and execute the enterprise data warehouse and data architecture strategy & roadmap. This role will provide oversight to project teams and manage BI team members working on data modeling, ETL & data profiling. This role will also execute against processes and technology to implement Amtrak’s Data Governance strategy.
The Director of IT BI will be responsible for maintaining and expanding Amtrak's BI and data management platforms, capabilities and discipline. This role will drive methodologies for the development of new data and BI products for Amtrak, as well as evaluating new technologies and approaches. This Director of BI will also coordinate across business lines to develop and maintain Amtrak's network of data repositories (including the EDW, near-real time data reporting, and a strategic approach to big data.)
The Director of IT BI will lead the Data Governance execution for Amtrak. Based on Data Strategy and Roadmaps for Amtrak businesses, this role will develop and implement approaches to validating, sharing, re-using, and standardizing Amtrak's critical data assets.
Essential Functions
Working closely with business stakeholders, including senior executives, to understand key pain points relating to data strategy, governance, reporting and analysis.
Analyzing data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schema; then leveraging BI technologies to design and develop solutions that meet implicit and explicit needs.
Guiding the strategic direction for the business' use of data, including defining the tools, methodology, architecture, standards, and procedures used internally.
Driving data governance & strategy initiatives. Facilitating the activities and decision making across business lines and IT to build more robust data assets.
Participating in the project planning process as a team member and/or project lead. Evaluating new BI, analytics and reporting technologies to be used to address business need.
Providing technical coaching and mentoring to less-experienced team members.
Working with business partners to understand business needs.
Providing input to business technology planning within business intelligence area.
Managing the development and implementation of IT initiatives to support business strategy.
Managing data information services, including predictive analytics, provided to one or more internal or external customer(s).
Providing high-quality services at optimal costs to customers.
Measuring service performance and implementing improvements as necessary.
Implementing defined process improvements as needed.
Participating in the development of IT budgets and working within established budgets.
Developing and implementing technologies to improve the performance of business process and increase profitability.
Providing input into the SLA development process and ensuring internal SLAs are maintained.
Providing advice and counsel to the vendor relationship decision-making and contract development processes.
Reviewing service provider performance including identifying and confirming performance problems, and notifying appropriate contract managers.
Meeting regularly with team to gather work statuses; discussing work progress and obstacles.
Providing team with advice, guidance, encouragement and constructive feedback.
Ensuring work, information, ideas, and technology flows freely within BI services.
Establishing measurable individual and team objectives that align with business and organizational goals.
Documenting and presenting team performance assessments.
Recognizing and rewarding team members when appropriate.
Implementing organizational practices for staffing, EEO, diversity, performance management, development, reward and recognition, and retention.
Ensuring staff have the resources and skills needed to support all work initiatives.
Participating in IT workforce deployment activities.
Generating appropriate communication, process, and educational plans for mitigating the disruption of change.
Identifying and removing obstacles to change.
Work Experience
Demonstrated years of relevant technical and business experience, including assignments in one or more business and technical processes.
Requires experience in managing teams and building relationships with people at a variety of levels.
Experience leading a staff function or shared services organization.
Experience working with BI tools such as Business Objects, Tableau, Qlikview, Cognos etc. as well as managing development of custom technology solutions.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Other Requirements
Knowledge and skill to provide support and consulting services to users and other developers on effectively designing and deploying BI solutions.
Ability to coordinate agendas and decision making across members of Amtrak’s senior leadership.
Knowledge of IT infrastructure, architecture, applications development and support, networks and computer operations.
Ability to design and execute process and technology to deliver business-focused data governance capabilities including Data Stewardship, Master Data Management and Data Validation.
Proven ability at project planning and at collaborating in groups,launching and delivering multiple projects on time and within budget.
Proven ability with combining business, leadership, and technical skills.
Proven ability to work closely with key team members to ensure solution meets the business requirements.
Proven ability at quickly assessing the impact of technical issues on the business and making decisions appropriately.
Proven capability to effectively oversee multiple work streams at once.
Demonstrated knowledge of customers’ business needs, processes, and functions.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Proven communication skills, both written and oral with individuals at all levels of an organization, including senior leadership

Proven ability to create and foster relationships with people at a variety of organizational levels.
Proven ability at launching and delivering IT projects on time and within budget.
Proven ability at translating data and any trends into strategic thinking by determining the impact the data and trends have on the responsibilities, capabilities, and/or future potential of Amtrak to be able to fulfill its business value proposition.
Preferred
Experience in Product Development and Management across information-intensive products.
Experience in advanced analytics and statistical modeling.
Communication And Interpersonal Skills
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
