Job description
The Director of Enterprise Architecture is responsible for providing strategic technical consulting on systems, architecture, and technology. This individual will provide industry leadership on key design decisions, while carefully weighing total cost of ownership and risk impacts on the organization. Responsible for managing a team of architects focused on aligning IT architecture with key business and IT strategic goals. Leads the Architecture team to develop an integrated view of the enterprise using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, industry standard techniques and best practices.
The Architecture team acts in a consultative role within the overall SDLC process to provide key leadership and mentoring to the various Senior Developers and Technical Leads assigned to design and develop various systems. The team provides an enterprise view of the to-be state, while maintaining custodianship of the architecture deliverables that define the current state. The Director of Enterprise Architecture works with their supervisor and senior leadership to set the roadmap for transition from current to end state, and provides governance to ensure that the roadmap is followed in the best way possible.
Work with key stakeholders to develop architecture framework that aligns strategy, processes, and IT assets with business goals
Provide guidance by closely working with project managers, developers, and focus groups to avoid redundancy, minimize expenditures, and improve overall synergy within organization
Responsible for establishing best practices, standards and guidelines for selecting, developing, and implementing information systems within enterprise
Confer with business, operations, governance and technology teams to develop an enterprise architecture strategy based on business needs, reference model and chosen enterprise architecture framework that aligns with the enterprise architecture principles
Participate in the creation of enterprise technology standards for the organization
Lead the selection of appropriate technology to support the business strategy and enterprise specifications, partnering with the business, data, application and security solution teams
Evaluate effectiveness of current enterprise architecture and make recommendations on required modifications and their impacts to the technology infrastructure, data assets, technology assets and business processes
Confer with management and staff of units concerned with business architecture issues to ensure integration of efforts
Confer with business stakeholders to gain and maintain proper level of engagement and obtain buy in of enterprise architecture artifacts produced by unit
Lead the efforts to setup and enable architecture governance capabilities across the enterprise; provide direction and oversight to the ongoing management of the Architecture Standards
Effectively communicate the value of enterprise architecture to the organization to the rest of the enterprise
Work with the business and technology stakeholders to enable enforcement of the architectural guidelines and principles across technology initiatives
Continuously monitor industry issues, trends and regulatory requirements and their associated impact on the organization; updates standards and reference models accordingly Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field. Or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
10-12 years of IT and business/industry work experience. Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible management experience and 3 years of proven leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects and influencing senior level management.
Implementation and maintenance of one or more architecture frameworks, including implementation of an architecture roadmap, with demonstrated results achieving some or all of the end state
Demonstrated leadership ability.
Proven success with primary project management responsibilities for mission critical projects.
Ability to analyze alternatives and implement systems which are responsive to client requirements.
Furnish Sr. level advice and consultation concerning policy and security implications for company applications.
Ability to effectively hire, organize, direct, evaluate and retain a professional staff in the development, implementation and operation of business technology systems.
Ability to oversee multiple technology initiatives.
Excellent, consulting, communication and organization skills.
Previous management of an architecture team
Prior experience at least one, but preferably more, of .NET Application Development using a SOA model, Domain Object Model and/or Enterprise Information Modeling
Experience working within a geographically dispersed infrastructure environment, including on premise, collocated, and partial if not fully cloud located
Prior experience with Enterprise Service Bus architecture and implementation a plus
Prior experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Services a plus.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment

Able to work quickly with attention to detail including high-pressure situations.
Ability to communicate technical concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff.
Ability to travel when necessary
