Director - AML Optimization - Citi - New York
Job description
Position Objective
Projects undertaken by the AML Optimization team are subject to rigorous focus by Regulators, IA and Citi’s Independent Model Validation group as many of the initiatives are leading-edge in the AML space including Alert and Case Risk Scoring models and statistical sampling. Additionally, there is substantial emphasis on AML re-engineering initiatives, for which Optimization has a significant role in leading the transaction monitoring work stream.
Key Responsibilities
Define and execute the strategic direction with respect to the statistical methodology and maintain global consistency across the six regions. Scope of responsibility covers the analyses performed by the global team focused on Optimization, Segmentation, Alert Risk Scoring, Case Risk Scoring, Tactical Tuning and all other data modeling/validation efforts depending on current needs and project plans.
Have global responsibility for Optimization’s role in AML re-engineering initiatives. This will include thought leadership around volume optimization and re-engineering opportunities; taking a leading role in the appropriate forum(s)/committee(s) to determine project prioritizations and lead the Optimization Team analyses and recommendations.
Manage the day to day relationship with Internal Audit and the Internal Model Validation team and take a lead role in discussing Optimization’s methodology and deliverables during reviews and exams.
Development Value
The successful candidate will be responsible for high profile initiatives within the AML program. This role will require interaction with regulators, senior leaders within the business and global functions and internal audit.
Qualifications
Master degree in statistics/mathematics/technical science, PhD highly preferred.
Knowledge/Experience
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in large, complex environments, including strong statistical/data analytical skills, including data quality validation, descriptive statistics and predictive modeling experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience managing team of highly technical specialists with statistical software packages such as SAS, SPSS and SQL, other standard database query tools and related applications.
Minimum 5 years of experience managing in a matrix environment and managing resource assignment to significantly reduce task-switching.
Minimum 5 years of experience in successfully implementing projects in the financial services industry, preferably with Operations experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in working across technology, compliance and business lines and managing inter-dependencies between different stakeholders.
Minimum of 5 years of experience with statistical software packages such as SAS, SPSS, etc.
Knowledge of some programming languages (preferably SQL and/or 4GL)
Mantas, AML monitoring systems and Spotfire experience a plus
Knowledge of the local/regional laws and regulations applicable to anti-money laundering is a plus
Retail banking, small business banking, commercial, institutional, private banking is preferred.

Demonstrates a strong understanding and application of analytical techniques including statistical sampling or predictive modeling experience.
Methodical analysis and problem-solving skills including the ability to translate complex statistical approaches and resultant data sets into actionable recommendations and decision making artifacts.
Proven ability to build exceptional teams, work well with a variety of people and be flexible in taking on different roles/responsibilities as projects change.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (both written and verbally) through all levels of the organization including the ability to translate technological concepts into easily understood presentations and provide management and senior management with clear and accurate understanding of opportunities, options, risks and impacts in all aspects of decision making regarding AML systems.
Ability to analyze and address end-to-end business processes to facilitate transformation projects that improve customer and shareholder value.
Proven ability to drive results and manage to changing priorities including the capability to plan for the unpredictable, evaluate risks and articulate control plans.
Mature and self-motivated with the ability to make decisions independently, in the absence of detailed instructions and to set priorities as needed.
Able to coordinate and deal with various level and conflicting time demands
Initiative, creativity and attention to detail are essential

Ability to work non-standard business hours, including weekends and holidays as determined by the business needs.
