Director - Software Development - Cisco - San Jose

Job description
Cisco is funding a small, agile, product development team to innovate and build a new product offering in the SDN controller space. The team will operate in an agile development model to rapidly bring a new product offering to market, reacting very quickly to initial customer feedback and market needs. Over time as customer adoption increases, the platform will be further utilized as the basis for many network applications.

Cisco is looking to hire a Director of Development to continue build the team and team culture, the product, and the process to bring it to market. He/she must have experience in building new software offerings with agility and urgency.


Qualified candidates have proven experience in:
• A recognized thought leader, with a strong ability to influence others, build consensus, lead teams, engage engineers, and drive towards business and technical decisions.
• Someone who knows the difference between leading and managing and is technically strong enough to roll up his or her sleeves and contribute.
• A leader with experience creating highly available, horizontally scalable, secure cloud-based services using state of the art process and technology.
• Built a team from scratch and led the team to a successful delivery
• Guided product features based on changing market requirements
• Owned the product schedule and feature requirements
• Passionate about creating an excellent software development process

Experience:
• Hiring, staffing, and team building
• Motivate and manage by setting realistic, yet aggressive objectives
• Software development systems, source code control, defect tracking, continuous build & integration
• Software development process; Agile/scrum, extreme, lean.
• Software project management and delivery on budget/time
• Web based applications built on modern software stacks
• Cloud or SaaS delivery; interaction with DevOps
• Direct interaction with key customers, both in pre-sales and post-sales roles
• Responsible for development of a product with a 24x7 SLA
• Worked for both small and large companies

Technologies:
• Java, python, Ruby
• API; webservices, REST, etc
• Test driven development
• Web based user experience design (UXD)
• Database; structured vs. unstructured, security, bigdata scaling to 100’s of Tb
• High availability and disaster tolerance
• Management and monitoring solutions
• Source code control; defect tracking; continuous integration tools

MS or equivalent in computer science.
Advanced degree a plus, but not required
