Director - Development - Red Window Project - San Francisco
Job description
The need:
Red Window is hiring a Director of Development. This person has the opportunity to meaningfully engage donors in our work, showing how their joyful financial partnership can bring freedom, safety and hope to thousands. For this role, Red Window is seeking a skilled networker with a fearless approach to building relationships with high net worth individuals and churches and the ability to convert those relationships to financial gifts. The successful candidate will raise $250,000 in new funding in his or her first year in the role and 20% more each subsequent year while staying within budget constraints.
The position may be based in the San Francisco Bay area or Metro New York City and reports to the CEO.
Responsibilities:
Generate and deepen new donor acquisition strategy
Develop, implement and evaluate strategies to significantly broaden and deepen the base of support from major donors in the region;
Gather and leverage contact information to identify new donors and build relationships leading to financial contributions;
Implement and evaluate strategies to improve Red Window’s capacity to capture names and contact information at speaking and educational events;
Identify, develop and carry a portfolio of 40 major donors in first year;
Spearhead prospecting projects; and
Develop and manage a comprehensive and intuitive system of donor information and analysis.
Facilitate deeper engagement of current donors
Cultivate relationships with existing donors to increase funding levels and develop relationships with other individuals and foundations, resulting in new major donors to Red Window;
Conduct a minimum of 18 face-to-face visits with donors per month;
Collaborate with major donors and board members in planning and implementing personal banquets/events in the region, resulting in increased funding support from current donors and an introduction of new potential donors to the work of Red Window;
Develop programs to recognize, thank and educate current donors; and
Champion bringing individual donors to major donor status by identifying and building relationships with local givers with greater capacity.
Engage new churches
Pursue relationships with church leaders who are not yet connected with Red Window to engage them in a dialogue about God’s heart for justice and to share about the mission of Red Window;
Secure church speaking engagements for yourself and for the CEO;
Articulate effectively, intelligently, credibly, and passionately the biblical call to love the poor, the story of Red Window, and the nature of international non-profit work to churches and other constituencies;
Raise the profile of Red Window broadly among churches and Christian leaders; and
Provide churches with inspiration and insight on how to champion God’s heart for the poor and the work of Red Window in their community, denomination, networks, and with their partners.
Forge robust partnerships
Convert Red Window exposure with churches in the region into deeper relationships and develop concrete opportunities for partnership through patient and excellent coaching of church leaders;
Increase financial and prayer support from churches in the region to advance the mission;
Develop vivid church models of every denomination, demographic and size that help to demonstrate a wide array of possibility for churches engaging in biblical justice both locally and abroad; and
Recruit church mobilization volunteers to assist with strategic initiatives and to help represent Red Window.
Other duties
Participate in general and development specific Red Window administrative support; and
Develop marketing collateral, lead social media marketing efforts and manage online presence as needed to successfully execute strategic development plans.
Travel requirements
The position will require regular travel throughout the region, with occasional visits to Red Window’s headquarters and possibly some international travel.
Desired Skills and Experience
Required skills and experience
Track record of annually bringing in over $750,000 from major donors (or sales equivalent);
Proven ability to effectively generate, develop, nurture and maintain individual relationships and the skill to lead those individuals to make joyful financial investments;
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
Experience speaking to high potential clients and donors effectively, intelligently, and passionately;
Experience managing, tracking and reporting on the financial efforts for a region;
Highly developed capacity to accurately and objectively evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of programs/events and to make appropriate adjustments;
Excellent speaker with some public speaking experience;
Demonstrated ability to effectively initiate, develop and nurture one-on-one relationships with ethnically diverse church leaders;
Experience delivering compelling 30-minute (or longer) presentations to audiences in excess of 500 persons preferred;
A proven ability to independently develop and meet challenging goals and deliver outstanding results for the organization without regular supervision; and
Bachelor degree required
