Senior Director - HEOR - Relypsa - San Francisco


Job description
The Senior Director, HEOR will be responsible for setting the HEOR strategy and for the successful
execution of HEOR projects and deliverables through partnership with the following functional areas: the Commercial organization, the Managed Markets-assigned Medical Science Liaisons, Scientific Communications, the Clinical Development organization and external vendors as appropriate. The incumbent will act as subject matter expert for Health Economics and Outcomes Research and Epidemiology in brand planning and life cycle planning initiatives within the company.

Reporting to the VP Medical Affairs, the Senior Director will:

Provide medical and strategic leadership for HEOR activities through cross functional partnerships.

Design, implement, and manage outcomes research projects including but not limited to retrospective database analyses, economic models, AMCP dossiers, and chart reviews.


Collaborate with external customers and academics in the development and implementation of health outcomes educational programs or collaborative research initiatives.

Disseminate health outcomes research findings at scientific congresses and manuscript publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Train Managed Markets, Medical Affairs and other teams as appropriate, on clinical and health
outcomes resources (economic models, slide sets, etc.)

Provide HEOR expertise to the Commercial Team to assist in the development and execution
of compliant commercial activities.

Provide expert input to the design of corporate sponsored trials and other trials with HEOR endpoints

Provide expert input to life cycle planning

Partner within the Organization to optimize cross-functional communication.

Support effective coordination of internal Governance bodies.

Support high-quality execution of Corporate-wide initiatives.

Develop, track, execute and report on goals and objectives.

Support budget planning and management.

Be accountable for compliant business practices.

Desired Skills and Experience
Advanced Scientific Degree (MSc, PhD, MD, PharmD)

At least 5 years of HEOR experience in the pharmaceutical industry

Excellent analytical skills, including in-depth knowledge of health economics, PROs, retrospective database and evidence-based medicine methodologies.

Competent in the development and application of health economic tools, and the design, execution and evaluation of health outcomes programs.

Experience partnering with Field Medical staff is required.

Prior experience with vendor selection and management is desired.

PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Working knowledge of applicable Federal and State Compliance guidelines and regulations.

Knowledge and experience in the field of nephrology and/or cardiovascular medicine preferred.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with relevant internal stakeholders and to lead projects and cross functional teams

Excellent leadership, management and negotiation skills. The ability to work in a fast-paced, highly visible and dynamic environment is critical.

Ability to influence and work effectively across functions and operate in a matrix environment.

San Francisco Bay Area resident preferred.
