Director - Mobile Engineering - OpenX - Los Angeles


Job description
As a senior member of the Mobile Platform team, you will be responsible for managing and executing critical Mobile projects across multi-disciplinary teams, while providing thought leadership along with significant personal contributions. Working in a highly collaborative environment, you will lead innovation in Mobile Engineering and Product teams to design, prototype, develop and deploy data-driven features and products. You will develop deep domain expertise in digital advertising and generate key insights that influence business decisions and technological solutions. In addition, you will be active in the Mobile community and have a responsibility to recruit, manage, motivate and retain the best talent in a performance-driven organization.

Job Responsibilities:
Assist with high-level tech write-ups for tech team, e.g. simple wiki pages of Product requests to spur advance discussion with team
Regularly ensure that code standards are high and scalability and security are ensured
Researching what new technologies and products are coming that may affect the team's future work
Help architect systems that can be re-used
Assess where opportunities might exist to prototype new products

Research upcoming potential gaps and opportunities to build new products
Determine where MVP and "skunkworks" projects can be done to move new ideas forward
Present ideas at larger engineering forums such as Tech Council
Seek opportunities to understand the product roadmap and new potential projects to "move the needle"
Clear roadblocks when support from another team is needed to complete projects (i.e., beg, cajole, bribe, etc.)
Seek collaboration opportunities where possible and knowledge sharing with the Engineering Team
Communicate regularly to provide visibility and advance warning of mobile team code changes to other systems
Attend meetings and regularly communicate with business stakeholders to fully understand needs
Ensure mobile engineering teams understands the business context of their work
Assist with go-to-market strategy and prioritize work on tech gaps to help products reach their potential
Provide training resources and assistance where possible to groups such as Support, Sales, Sales Engineering, etc.
Responsible for Team’s Goal setting, Feedback and Performance reviews
Very Capable of Mentoring and Career Development to Managers and Individual Contributors
Proactive in exploring training opportunities to increase teams skills as well as personal
Lead regular group meetings to offer visibility and feedback opportunities to the whole team
Understands and able to assess current staffing against roadmap
Will be responsible for drafting job descriptions, working with internal and external recruiters to hire top talent for organization

Desired Skills and Experience
REQUIREMENTS:
PhD in Computer science, Statistics, Operations Research or related field is preferred. Or MS with 5+ years of direct data science experience.
Ability to design and develop complex algorithms, mathematical models.
Must have solid background in operations research, data science, statistical modeling or machine learning.
Knowledge/exposure to big data processing and storage with tools such as Hadoop, Storm, Hive, HBase, Riak, Redis, Mahout, Nutch and Lucene.
Experience with building, deploying and scaling reliable real-time algorithms for on-line ad optimization systems.
Hands-on experience working with Java or C++ is highly preferred.
