Director - Americas Controller - Ask.com - Oakland
Job description
The position will report to the VP, Global Controller in Oakland, CA, and will direct and oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, technical accounting, tax, and compliance activities. More specifically, the candidate will be responsible for accounting operations within the Americas and will be responsible for financial controls, financial reporting, technical accounting, tax, and compliance activities world-wide.
Candidates must be hands on, capable of providing strategic direction to the leadership of the business and providing strategic direction for accounting operations, as well as inspire employees to do the best work of their careers.
The ideal candidate is a master of finance and accounting operations with excellent executive presence, a collaborative working style, and excellent management and leadership skills with the ability to provide clear direction to the accounting, SOX, and reporting staff while also functioning as an individual contributor.
Responsibilities
Direct accounting operations in the Americas, overseeing all transactions related to the GL and month-end close
Responsible for world-wide monthly and quarterly close process including financial statement (balance sheet, income statement, cash flows, free cash flow, MD&A, and guarantor) review of domestic and international locations, and business groups to ensure integrity of the financial statements
Responsible for monthly financial reporting process ensuring results are delivered on-time and accurately to the IAC consolidation team. In addition, ensuring all accounts are properly reconciled on a timely basis
Actively involved in addressing complex financial reporting issues as they arise and providing a second option on the application of technical accounting rules
Responsible for all internal and external audits affecting the Americans region & overseeing International region
Support the external reporting requirement by overseeing the preparation and review of IMG's internal MD&A and supporting files for submission to IAC consolidation team
Define the vision and lead process redesign efforts relating to changes to monthly close, consolidation, and reporting processes - identifying non-value-added activities and eliminating them
Ensure that financial activities are in conformity with GAAP, SOX, and corporate policies
Assists in the development, maintenance and education of all major accounting policies and requirements
Report findings to management and where applicable manage remediation activities
Responsible for merger and acquisition accounting, and assisting in integration of finance and accounting activities related to future acquisitions
Ensures that the team delivers the highest standard of departmental, cross departmental and cross region customer service
Required Skills/Experience
CPA required; Big 4 experience desired
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Accounting at minimum
Recent experience as a senior level accounting and reporting professional at a company with annual revenues of at least $100 million required
15+ years of professional accounting and reporting experience with at least 4 years of recent relevant Controller, Assistant Controller or Business Unit Controller experience
Solid understanding and hands on experience with SOX, including the ability to consider the relationship of the regulatory requirements and the organization; ability to apply the appropriate principals to business
Timely identifies technical accounting, process-related and systems related issues, and provides hands on and strategic focus in addressing such issues
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills and direct experience with enterprise software applications (e.g. Oracle or SAP and consolidation systems like HFM) and participation in strategic decisions around system improvements
Experience with varied financial reporting, accounting and business practices
Successful track record in driving both strategic and operational activities. Demonstrated ability to contribute to plan formulation as well as execution
Extreme attention to detail (the importance of detail orientation, particularly in the review of analyses cannot be overemphasized)
Ability to work in dynamic, fast paced, fast growing company where adaptability is imperative
Directly supervised and made significant process improvements to the monthly close process
Demonstrated skills in supervising, coaching staff and creating high performance teams
Track record of inspiring employees to do the best work of their careers
Prior experience in managing teams with over 15 staff
Ability to interact with executives and across functions
Ability to quickly grasp company operations and business drivers
