Director - Investment - Venture Capital - Motorola Solutions - Schaumburg
Job description
Motorola Solutions Venture Capital (MSVC) is responsible for accelerating sustainable bottom line growth for Motorola Solutions through investments in new technologies, new businesses and new talent. MSVC is a small, high-impact team located in Schaumburg, IL and Tel Aviv Israel. The team is responsible for making investments in high tech start-ups that are relevant to our businesses. The department currently manages a portfolio of approximately 12 companies with new companies added to the portfolio annually. The department is also responsible for monetizing these investments and meeting annual strategic and financial goals set by the corporation.
MSVC is looking for an Investment Director to assume a leadership role within MSVC and work closely with Motorola’s Chief Technology Officer and other operating executives in aligning our venture capital portfolio with our operating businesses. The new hire is expected to start in early Q1 2015.
Specific Responsibilities
• Lead investment decisions for portfolio and originate and evaluate transaction opportunities including strategic fit, valuation, growth prospects, and capital structures;
• Actively manage portfolio investments as Board Observer;
• Actively develop and enhance Key relationships manager with other members of the venture capital and entrepreneurial community;
• Actively develop and maintain key relationships inside of MSI to evaluate and support the MSVC investment activity
• Coordinate and conduct strategic, financial and business diligence in support of investment thesis
• Support investment strategy aligned with Motorola’s growth initiatives through industry research, attendance at select conferences/trade exhibitions, and collaboration with Motorola Solutions and industry operating executives
• Develop operating models and perform ad hoc financial forecasting and analyses
• Prepare reports on industry trends and status of portfolio companies under management
• Work closely with the Law Department in the negotiation of legal documentation
• Participate in portfolio management including performance metrics (KPIs), operations reviews, annual budgets, add-on acquisitions, business process improvement projects, industry/competitive research, strategic and organizational consulting, financing, investor relations, and board meetings/preparation of minutes
• Assist in development of wide range of reports and presentations for senior management such as technology & industry trends and portfolio performance
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience
• 8+ years of prior experience in investment banking, venture capital or management consulting and in-depth knowledge of technology industry
• MBA or private equity program equivalent or other advanced degree
• Full-cycle private equity and/or venture capital transaction execution from letter of intent through closing and relationship management
• Advanced knowledge of Excel and financial modeling and PowerPoint presentation experience
