DC Entertainment (DCE) is home to the iconic brands of DC Comics (Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash and more), Vertigo (Sandman, Fables) and MAD. DCE drives the strategic integration of these brands throughout Warner Bros. Entertainment divisions, creating content and experiences with DC stories and characters across film, television, consumer products, home entertainment, interactive entertainment and more.

DCE is also the largest English language comic publisher in the world, with its publishing business generating thousands of comic books, graphic novels and magazines each year.
DC Entertainment seeks a Director, Business Development & New Channels for the Sales & Business Development department. The Director, Business Development & New Channels will seek out and vet incremental revenue opportunities that result in more and new audiences across various industries and verticals reading DCE publishing content, as it relates to the overall publishing distribution strategy.
Additionally, this position will focus on imagining and creating high value promotional opportunities with 3rd party brands through “customized solutions” packages that can include print/digital comics, other customized products, video, advertising programs, and managed presence at events and retail. The position will collaborate with Executive Director, Business Development & New Channels to develop strategies for increasing DCE’s physical and digital publishing content internationally.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create a suite of customized solutions that draft off various events, based on a promotional calendar of DCE media and publishing events that can be sold to 3rd party brands or account-specific retail customers. Solicit, sell and manage each opportunity with superior communication - both internally and externally.
• Develop and monitor weekly execution of a targeted “hit list” of companies, brands, distributors, and contacts that will further DCE’s distribution reach, and/or that results in 3rd party purchase of customized solutions, in order to achieve annual sales goals. Solicit prospective partners, then present and sell DCE’s strengths and capabilities into each of the prospective partnerships.
• Collaborate with internal DCE groups (sales, marketing, editorial creative services, publishing operations, PR, legal/business affairs) to ensure proper communication and execution of new business deals, including customized solutions.
• Manage relationships with WB and 3rd party agencies to ensure sales teams are maximizing opportunities for DC, and achieving their sales goals. Provide assistance with information, pitch materials, and pitch meetings as necessary.
• Seek out information that impacts industry trends for physical and digital distribution, and ensure the team has updated research information necessary to make well-informed decisions regarding advertising opportunities, and communicate them accordingly.
• Represent DC Entertainment at conventions and trade shows.

Desired Skills and Experience
JOB REQUIREMENTS

• BA/BS degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business or related field or equivalent work experience required.
• MBA preferred.
• 7+ years previous experience working in business development or sales required.
• 3+ years working in an advertising, sales or marketing and promotions department required.
• Integrated print, digital and online sales experience a must.
• Experience working in the entertainment industry a plus.
• Advertising agency or publishing experience a plus.
• Intermediate to Advanced Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
• Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in research services (comscore, @plan, MRI and Neilson) required.
• Proficiency in digital, online and social networking landscape.
• A passion for DC Entertainment brands and properties strongly preferred.
• A proven ability to develop and maintain ongoing business relationships with advertising agencies and clients required.
• The candidate must be cognizant of market trends in the kids/tween, teen/young adult and adult markets and have a clear understanding of licensed promotions and custom publishing sales.
• Must come with a deep, current contact list.
• Ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously in a very fast-paced environment required.
• Must be articulate, creative, tenacious and self-motivated.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with persons on all levels, in person and on the telephone.
• Must be creative and innovative thinker.
• Must understand market trends and have the ability to capitalize on them.
• Must have the ability to sell new ideas to potential partners.
• Must be comfortable entertaining clients.
• Effective and proven verbal and written communications skills required.
• Must have the ability to organize and schedule work effectively.
• Must have the ability to travel as needed (up to 40% of the time).
