Job description
DC Entertainment (DCE), home to iconic brands DC Comics, Vertigo and MAD, is the creative division charged with strategically integrating its iconic content across Warner Bros. and Time Warner. Founded in 2009, DC Entertainment works in concert with many key Warner Bros. divisions to unleash its stories and characters across all media, including but not limited to film, television, consumer products, home entertainment, and interactive games.
We are currently recruiting a Director, Business Affairs to join our DCE business. This position will be tasked with the following responsibilities:
• Negotiate, manage and track creative talent deals, as assigned and supervise routing of agreements through full execution and implementation.
• Negotiate, manage and track various agreements and creative talent related business matters.
• Advise and liaise with applicable DCE business departments with respect to various DCE business and talent matters, including compensation, credits, clearance, reversions, contractual obligations and related content issues.
• Manage day-to-day workings of editorial aspects of licensed property publications and work directly with DCE editors, marketing and publicity divisions on editorial approval.
• Research, track and advise on historical creative talent contributions and handle research/coordination of relevant information for collected editions.
• Negotiate, track and manage digital and print distribution/channel deals, domestic and international.
• Negotiate, track and manage film, television, animation, games, merchandise and other media deals.
• Provide support to VP, Business Affairs and other areas of DCE in negotiation, as assigned, and management of deals in support of DCE’s business operations.
• Research and stay current on any business issues and industry information/commercial terms in connection with all of the above.
• Work collaboratively with and advise DCE senior management and DCE/WB on business affairs matters. Work closely with DCE legal and finance groups, as well as in collaboration with WB divisions on cross-divisional matters.
Desired Skills and Experience
Desirable candidates will have the following qualifications:
• BA/BS degree required.
• JD or MBA required.
• 7+ years experience as business affairs in-house at a large media company, publishing or equivalent, emphasis on prominent talent negotiations. Knowledge of DCE properties a plus.
• Effective and proven high level negotiation and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Must be conversant and have awareness/understanding of business strategies and priorities.
• Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with business partners.
• Sound judgment with ability to balance risks/rewards in deal making.
• Ability to work independently as appropriate a proven record in successfully negotiating and concluding deals within agreed parameters.
• Must be facile with rights management, computer databases and talent contract information systems.
• Extensive contacts in the entertainment industry and possess a knowledge base of industry wide deal parameters within the media industry.
