Job description
Engineering & Consulting Services
The engineering services group works strategically with existing and potential clients to gain an understanding of their specific supply chain challenges and to jointly explore supply chain improvement opportunities. Further, the team provides tactical decision-making services that bridge the gap between strategic planning and operational execution. Transplace Engineering Services is dedicated to utilizing existing cost-saving logistics processes and to the development of new techniques to ensure continued best practices.

Supply Chain Solutions (Provide innovative supply chain solutions to both internal and external customers in order the trill the customer by reducing cost and improving service.)
Opportunity Pricing (Accurately identify implementation and on-going costs associated with new opportunities and establish profitable, competitive pricing while mitigating known risks)
Project Management (Planning, organizing, securing, managing, leading, and controlling resources to achieve specific goals. Work with sales, operations and customers to prioritize work with available resources.)
Customer Relationship (Consistent and professional communications; effective, prompt and courteous communications with respect to difficult situations.)
Internal Analytical Support (Provide assistance to internal Transplace departments to assist those departments in meeting and exceeding their customers’ expectations.)
Hiring, Training and Retention. (Lead efforts to hire highly qualified engineers and leaders, develop and sustain training program, implement policies and program to improve key employee retention)
Tools Development. (Identify requirements and direct efforts to develop and enhance analytical / optimization tools – SPT, VB tools, etc)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS
Act as an expert adviser to the internal and external customers to inform them of optimization solutions and recommend the best practices for the customer's supply chain.
Provide expert advice in Microsoft Excel and other applications to all end users
Statistical Analysis
Research & Development (Development of tools, solution procedures and processes.)
Challenge and raise question in field of expertise and provide new thinking and ways of doing things
Provide Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of customers supply chain opportunities and challenges
Evaluate and design/model customer distribution network
Participate in the Sales Process
Hire, train and retain highly capable employees
Drive strategic direction of Engineering defining scope of services, competitive pricing and branding

Desired Skills and Experience
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
· Advanced Understanding of Supply Chain Management Principles & Strategies (Design, planning, execution, control, and monitoring of supply chain activities with the objective of creating net value, building a competitive infrastructure, leveraging worldwide logistics, synchronizing supply with demand and measuring performance globally)
· Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Tools (Ability to leverage Access, Excel, Power Point as well as to master the appropriate use of other MS programs, including Word, Outlook, Lync, etc.)
· Current Transportation Market Knowledge (Understanding of the operating practices, financial position, structure, and management organization of carrier firms, including knowledge of lanes and rates)
· Supply Chain Solutions Advanced understanding of the Supply Chain Solutions Transplace can offer and ability to align it with customers’ needs.)
· Industry Expertise (Transportation industry knowledge, including key terminology; and, general knowledge of primary customer industries, i.e., CPG, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Chemical & Petroleum, Manufacturing (including Paper) and Retailers; knowledge of mode-centric elements by customer industry (i.e., Discrete Manufacturing tends to be dominated by Truckload, Intermodal and Box Car; Retail very large LTL or Parcel requirement may include TL, IM and Box Car phraseology, etc.))
· Process Improvement and Problem Solving (Expertise in systematically approaching process or performance challenges through identification and elimination of causes of poor quality, variation and waste.)
· Statistical Analysis (Expertise in the collection, examination, summarization, manipulation, and interpretation of quantitative data to discover its underlying causes, patterns, relationships, and trends.)
· Operations Research and Heuristics (Expertise in applying quantitative and incremental exploration approaches to decision making and problem solving.)

· Planning and Organizing (Uses time efficiently. Prioritizes and plans work activities. Anticipates situations in advance and prepares to cope with them. Ability to identify scope creep and provide feedback to necessary stakeholders. Integrates changes smoothly.)

EXPERIENCE
· 12+ Years of Professional Employment in an engineering or other analytical role within the logistics industry
· 5+ years leading a team of professional engineers

EDUCATION

· Masters of Science or PhD in Industrial Engineering, Operations Re
