SVP - Strategic Planning - Doner - Detroit

Role
The SVP, Strategic Planning role is the equivalent of a Group Planning Director at Doner. They have leadership responsibility across two to four clients or they have focused responsibility for a team assigned to a major client. They set an example internally and with clients. They are the strategic point person within the collaborative, multi-disciplinary agency team that clients come to rely upon and trust. This person makes it a personal mission to transform client challenges into creative opportunities; they help the agency deliver great work. They instill this determination into others that report to them and ensure that all strategic materials live up to high standards. They are ready to demonstrate leadership potential and directly engage with top levels of agency management.
Responsibilities
- Be “our planner” to key clients – the person they rely upon to help them succeed. It’s clear that this person understands their business and they are invested in mutual success.
- Develop and maintain respect with creative teams and the brand leadership team; push and inspire them all to achieve better work
- Embody the strategic idea, the audience’s heart, and the brand’s voice. Make it personal.
- Provide thought leadership within cross-functional teams, including partner agencies. Be firm but collaborative so ideas maintain integrity
- Craft compelling strategic documents; help edit and shape the contributions of others
- Proactively suggest new ways of developing and understanding the brand
- Propose, design, and manage research projects (quantitative and qualitative), such as audience insight efforts and creative development dialogue with consumers
- Recommend innovative ideas for various communication channels
- Take responsibility for working with clients to evaluate the effectiveness of creative ideas in the marketplace; this includes copy testing and monitoring brand health metrics
- Manage other Strategic Planners, both as people and as contributors
Requirements
- Have a strong presence and have good people skills; be a leader and be nice to work with
- Be a motivator and contribute positive energy; for the sake of the broader team, keep a positive attitude in the face of adversity
- Exhibit confidence and persuasiveness; be willing to express a point of view, get people on board, and demonstrate persistence
- Exhibit excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Ideally have experience with one or more major retail brands
- Have 12+ years of strategic planning experience or agency/marketing experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Fashion experience ideal
