Senior Director - Global Marketing Excellence - EMD - Rockland
Job description
The Senior Director, Global Marketing Excellence will contribute to shape, lead the implementation and continually improve to elevate the organization’s capabilities in the area of marketing excellence. This position will be responsible to lead the strategic imperative of Global Lead Agency Network. Working closely with the Vice President, Head of Global Marketing Excellence and Business Innovation, this individual will deliver a gap analysis of the current state, build practical, stepwise (short, mid and long term) solutions, identify and implement optimal methods, training and measurement, impact the quality of marketing plans, improve of multichannel marketing approach, and support elevating marketing capabilities that drive business results. This role will work closely with the Global Business Franchises (GBFs), regions and countries, regional marketing, global and regional commercial excellence, global CoE, and cross-functionally to continually improve the capabilities that are needed to attain business results of Merck Serono.
This role will report directly to the Head of Global Marketing Excellence and Business Innovation, and will be accountable to strengthen Merck Serono’s global marketing approach to transition from process to marketing excellence in practice.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify critical core marketing processes, practices and expertise required to drive business performance
Identify opportunities to leverage best practices based on both internal and external benchmarks
Embed and entrench marketing excellence, gaining input and alignment across many key stakeholders (GBFs, Regional Commercial Excellence network, GOC, Regional/Country leadership, RFLs, Medical Affairs, CoE, HR, Finance)
Lead the design, development, and consistent implementation of Merck Serono’s global marketing processes
lead Global Lead Agency Network imperative through successful worldwide implementation and measurement
build a robust set of marketing guidelines, tools and processes within Merck Serono
delivery of such processes into frameworks, workshops, and custom deliverables for region and country needs
Refine Global and Country Brand Planning to successfully transition from a process to dynamic marketing excellence in practice, identifying and delivering training and guidance
Review and constructively critique brand plans and marketing strategy at all levels (global, regional, country); providing direction on quality of plans, clarity of strategy, and resource deployment
Ensure that Multichannel Marketing is incorporated into brand plans
Optimize and implement Merck Serono Marketing Awards programs
Identify and assess Merck Serono Marketing training tools
develop pragmatic approach toward efficient Global Marketing Academy
Develop and implement a Marketing resource allocation methodology
Identify threshold level requirements to effectively compete
Build an internal network across regions and countries to drive best marketing excellence practice and content sharing
Understand and communicate emerging trends and opportunities for potential new approaches
Partner with Business Insights to build analytical plans and tools to measure effectiveness and efficiency for core programs that are developed
CANDIDATE’S PROFILE
EDUCATION/LANGUAGES
MBA preferred
Undergraduate degree required
English mandatory
Second language desired
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
10+ years in industry experience in relevant commercial functions
Depth and breadth of understanding of both traditional and innovative multichannel pharmaceutical marketing, with 7+ years in pharmaceutical/biotech brand marketing and management
Majority of experience must be in non-sales/field force functions
Experience and proven track record in both country operational and strategic global marketing required
Broad functional experience is necessary: marketing, marketing excellence, market research, market access, pricing, business development, sales with proven customer centric orientation
Both line and marketing service experience
Hands-on launch experience and excellence is required, preferably 2+ different situations
Brand management experience of existing brands is required
Hands-on experience in global and country brand planning, marketing strategy and operations, marketing innovation, market research, market access
Expertise in resource allocation and promotional mix effectiveness
Strong process and project management skills to meet (or surpass) deadlines and deliverables
Emerging market experience preferred
Marketing experience in other industries (top tier CPG, technology) optional; albeit not in most recent position
