Director - Tools & Processes - Zodiac Aerospace - Gainesville
Job description
1) OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for managing and directing all aspects of the Tools and Processes Office which includes oversight of the Tools and Processes Managers for the following groups: Project Engineering, Operations Program Management, Program Management, Engineering and Program Administration. This position will oversee the development and implementation of a common set of operational processes and for ensuring compliance and providing consistency in standard work, processes, procedures and training to using leading industry standard tools and processes.
2) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A) Oversee the creation, development and implementation of detailed Subject Matter Expert (SME) training for core groups (Project Engineering, Operations Program Management, Program Management, Engineering and/or Program Administration) as needed.
B) Responsible for the facilitation and participation in process improvement initiatives as needed; Ensuring compliance with Zodiac Aerospace’s Lean standards.
C) Responsible for the facilitation and participation in functional leadership meetings as needed.
D) Oversee the coordination of computer based training, utilizing the learning management system (LMS).
E) Ensure the Tools and Process Team provides support to the IPTs and Product Lines as needed.
F) Assist Product Line Directors (PLDs) with capacity planning.
G) Assist PLDs with problem resolution respective to processes associated with disciplines.
H) Create and maintain all departmental metrics, including preparation for MOR.
I) Manage SharePoint site, including reports, schedules, metrics and program data; supporting IT, other ZSUS business units, and other Departments with their SharePoint objectives.
J) Lead the Phase Gate Process.
K) Lead the training effort for Tools and Processes.
L) Act as primary point of contact for all PMO audits, both internal and external.
M) Assist Product Line Directors with selection and hiring of incumbents for respective core groups; providing input as requested in assessing the performance of incumbents.
N) Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing staff; Planning, assigning and directing work; Appraising performance; Rewarding and disciplining staff; Addressing complaints and resolving problems.
O) Act as mentor to the Tools and Process Team to help provide excellent presentations, professional communication and career growth.
P) Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
Q) Review status reports prepared by project personnel and modify schedules or plans as required; prepare project reports and publish critical path for all projects.
R) Participate with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.
S) Confer with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities and scope of authority.
Perform other related duties as required.
3) QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
A) Knowledge and Skills:
i) Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
ii) Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
iii) Ability to prepare presentations, write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
iv) Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
v) Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
vi) Knowledge of program management tools, processes and metrics, and the ability to train and educate others is required.
vii) Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence others at all
levels of the organization.
viii) Understanding of the most sophisticated PM tools, including EVMS, WBS, Risk Management, Microsoft Project Server 2010, for Project Schedule Analyzer, etc.
ix) Strong working knowledge of the standard suite of office software products required (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint, Visio, and Project Server) strongly desired.
x) Knowledge of program management, engineering and operations program management; and relationships between departments within a design to build and manufacturing environment.
Desired Skills and Experience
A) Education and/or Experience:
i) A Bachelor’s degree in one of the following; Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering; Manufacturing; Industrial Engineering; Business Management or related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
ii) Demonstrated effective leadership and communication skills. In-depth knowledge of two or more of the following disciplines; program management, project engineering, operations program management and/or engineering, desired.
iii) Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in the commercial aviation industry desired, or within a comparable technical and regulated industry.
iv) Master Lean/Continuous Improvement-based certification or equivalent highly desired.
v) Five (5) years of managing complex programs. Understanding of aerospace Engineering, Certification, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance Sales Management and Contracts preferred.
vi) Contracts management experience is desired for this position.
vii) Experience in managing the most complex programs that span several customers, requiring coordination of technology and/or production across locations.

4) PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
A) Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to twenty percent (20%) or more of the time, as required.
