Responsibilities
A Director Compliance Risk Management is the independent compliance partner who is responsible for working with a specific CFG Business Division/Unit to ensure that the Business Compliance Program (Program) appropriately addresses the regulatory risks relative to the Division/Unit’s business activities. As a Compliance team member, working within the CFG Compliance function, the Dir Compliance Risk Mgt will be co-located with the relevant business and actively engaged to compliance and AML advice, monitoring and oversight of an effective Program. The Dir Compliance Risk Mgt will collaborate with the Director of Compliance and Senior Compliance Manager to foster an open and honest risk management and compliance culture across the Business Division/Unit and ensure timely reporting and escalation of regulatory risk issues to the Direct of Compliance and Business management.
Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring cross divisional and product specific fair lending compliance activities in collaboration with business line and compliance management
Leading CFG’s fair lending initiatives through the execution of related activities
Driving corporate governance through functional and cross divisional fair lending working groups to advance the culture of fair lending compliance throughout the organization
Oversee and assess CFG enterprise fair lending program to relative to CFG Group Standards and U.S. Regulatory Requirements and monitors lending activities and data for fair lending compliance
Leverage a dedicated Fair Lending Analyst to perform meaningful analysis and reporting around Fair Lending compliance activities to identify trends, issues, within business units and across the enterprise.
Serve as a Fair Lending subject matter expert
Provide guidance to the Office of the Chairman related to complaints alleging violations of fair lending standards, and will oversee the development of fair lending training
Collaboration with Business Partners
Partners and collaborates for success with Business management, Business Unit Risk Management, Legal and CFG Compliance colleagues to ensure timely identification, mitigation, resolution and reporting/escalation of existing, emerging and upstream regulatory risks and issues
Works directly with Business Units to ensure compliance with applicable banking laws, rules, regulations, and supervisory guidance
Serves as an independent advisor to Business Units colleagues and risk management
Participates in Business management, risk, new product, and project meetings and provides regulatory risk advice as well as ongoing information about new and changing regulatory developments
Escalates Business Unit compliance issues and updates to the Senior Compliance Manager and/or Director of Compliance
Contributes to the CFG Compliance report on the Business Unit’s "State of Compliance"
Partners with the Business to develop and review policies, procedures, standards, controls, and tests that meet existing, new or changing regulatory requirements
Working with the Senior Compliance Manager and/or Director of Compliance, provides compliance advice and sign-off, as appropriate
Provides compliance advice and sign-off on new Business initiatives, new products & services and process changes
Compliance Strategy
Actively collaborates across the CFG Compliance team; shares information and insight from the Business Units in order to improve reporting and establish a comprehensive view of regulatory risk
Working with the Director of Compliance and/or Senior Compliance Manager, assists Regulatory Relations in coordinating regulatory examinations, advises on Action Plan design to address regulatory findings and tracks timely remediation of the regulatory issues
Proactively reaches out to Business management, Business Unit Risk Management, Legal, and the larger Risk community to offer support and assistance in compliance-related matters to ensure an open, adequate and effective risk management culture
Establish and cultivate a strong working relationship with the respective Business Unit Risk Management teams to advance the culture and effectiveness of a synchronized approach to risk management in respect of current, new or emerging applicable banking law and regulation as well as internal corporate compliance policy and procedures
Consult with the Business Management and Compliance Officer colleague(s) regarding the design and implementation of key strategic initiatives and business changes to provide tactical regulatory/compliance advice and recommendations
Research & Analysis
Research and analyze compliance trends and industry benchmarking to prepare for and monitor upstream risks and issues
In coordination with the Director of Compliance and/or the Senior Compliance Manager, identify relevant regulatory updates to report out to Business Unit and CFG Compliance management committees and leadership teams
Colleague Engagement and Development
Work with the Compliance Officer(s) and Analyst(s) to ensure that they are properly engaged and positioned to enable the supported business to remain current with laws and regulations in tandem with CFG’s strategic goals as well as industry best practices
Support the development and advancement of Compliance Officer(s) and Analysts(s) and assist in the recruitment of Compliance colleagues
Improve employee engagement while advancing teamwork, transparency, and accountability
Maintain financial awareness for the budget and expenses
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Management or related degree
Master degree preferred
Prefer Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager designation
8-10 years Compliance, Risk, Audit experience with proven ability to proactively collaborate with colleagues and management
Experience working in a large, complex financial service organization and working with regulatory agencies, including OCC, FDIC or State agencies required
Strong communication, collaboration, and technical compliance skills
Should be able to work effectively with others at all levels across the organization and provide authoritative guidance to management and staff within the organization
Strategic vision and organization/marketplace awareness
Strong working knowledge of the compliance risks associated with a banking institution as well as experience working in and/or building effective compliance programs
Experience reading and interpreting regulations, laws, and statutes
Strong research skills preferred
Problem solving skills as well as flexibility and adaptability are of key importance
Strong leadership and influencing capabilities
