Director - Sales & Marketing - Dolce Hotels & Resorts - San Francisco
Job description
The Director of Sales is responsible for the development of the hotel’s sales team and driving the strategies for achieving overall revenues for the entire property including the development, selling, and maintaining of segments or accounts as assigned. This position also typically manages the group sales managers and their performance towards achieving their annual room night & revenue goals. This position carries a revenue target.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Manages the sales team: staffing, coaching, and performance management, typically for the group sales managers.
• Develops a targeted deployment strategy for the hotel sales team and ensures that the sales organizational chart aligns with the needs of the hotels and the hotel budget
• Manages market territory based on annual room night and revenue target. Actively prospects and solicits new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, conducting outside sales calls, online bidding/contracting, site inspections, client entertainment, contracting, RFP responses, and written communication. Targets key relationships with customers directly and through other sources including travel industry, CVB, etc. Meets solicitation and maintenance call requirements.
• Ensures that the sales team participates in cross-property selling programs, account development and strategy, and prospecting for new business from opportunity accounts near property that have outbound potential for other Dolce Hotels and Resorts
• Works closely with the Global Sales Organization to ensure property sellers are versed on vertical market strategies and that sellers are aligned with the Global Sales Organization on select key account teams. Supports the overarching strategies of the Global Sales Organization and ensures that property Strategic Team is aware of GSO Strategies and Initiatives to build alignment
• Participates in and/or leads daily business review meeting, weekly sales meetings, dolce & function specific training, mystery shopping and other sales related meetings as requested by DOSM.
• Prepares weekly sales reports and other departmental reports as needed/designated as well as other correspondence, including correspondence to customers and internal departments
• Helps Group Sellers to close complex leads. Reviews all Group Seller weekly activities and guides them in account development strategies
• Ensures that all Group Sellers have a current 30-60-90 day Sales Action Plans.
• Conducts weekly 1:1’s with members of the Group Sales Team
• Assists with and completes special projects and assignments as designated by the General Manager or DOSM.
• Participates and professionally represents the hotel in industry related professional organizations, trade shows, community events, networking events, and sales trips.
• Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required. Work may require evening, night, holiday, or weekend assignments on occasion.
Desired Skills and Experience
• A minimum formal education of high school diploma or GED with college degree highly preferred.
• 5+ years of direct sales experience within mid-size to large full-service resort/hotel, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Solid working knowledge of corporate transient, group, leisure and catering segments • Proven track record of driving solid results
• Excellent communications skill (oral & written)
• Proven ability to effectively develop & lead a team to achieve/exceed growth goals.
• Proven ability to foster relationships with key third party vendors, political and community organizations
• Demonstrated analytical ability and financial acumen and report writing skills
• Effective presentation and interpersonal skills
• Computer literate. Prefer Microsoft Office proficiency. Prefer experience with Delphi, Lanyon and Opera hotel automation systems.
• Understand the GDS, TMC and different channel distributions related to travel.
• Ability to analyze market data and translate it to a plan to target new business through Hotelligence Report, Star Report, etc.
• Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
