Director - Engineering - QualServ Solutions - Fort Smith
Job description
Primary Responsibilities:
Focus on the structuring and operation of the product development engineering function day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; delivering new products and revisions to existing customizable manufacturable designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to meet customer needs.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership for the business direction of product development activities including budgeting, product roadmaps, development strategy, effective project management, and scalable processes and procedures.
Insure product designs meet customer expectations for quality and performance.
Achieve cost effective customized product designs for retail and other commercial applications.
Provide leadership in terms of technical specification, technical guidance, and decision making
Help drive new innovative products using NPD stage gate process
Work with project managers to support project schedule and budgets.
Manage people from a resource and staffing level to ensure objectives are met and achieved.
Interface with key customers on high visibility accounts.
Ensure that products are fully and correctly defined and documented using 3-D SolidWorks CAD system.
Participate in product testing and evaluation efforts.
Hire and direct engineering and design staff for appropriate resources and develop plans to meet scheduled commitments.
Liaison with Quality to drive quality improvement projects
Provide proper CAD documentation to Process Engineering for CAM processing of automated CNC laser cutting and CNC & laminating wood working equipment
Lead the VA/VE cost reduction efforts
Able/willing to travel to meet customers as required
Desired Skills and Experience
BS in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA or MS Engineering would be a plus
2 to 5 or more years in a management role. Proven track record of developing team members and engineering practices.
5 to 10 years minimum hands-on mechanical engineering experience.
Understanding of the business issues to lead an engineering department, knowledge of mfg. operations and budget management.
Ability to handle multiple projects and work effectively under time constraints
Excellent customer-presence and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated team building and leadership skills.
Food Service equipment and merchandising systems background along with design knowledge of sheet metal, wood, plastics laminates and solid surfacing fabricated products would be a plus
Exposure to industry standards such as UL, CSA, and NSF
