If so, The Weather Company is looking for an experienced Director, Americas Business Development to drive global distribution, licensing, advertising and weather data-driven initiatives across traditional and emerging digital platforms. The key responsibilities and desired qualifications are below:
Position Summary:
The Director, Americas Business Development will lead an exciting new effort intended to increase market share and generate incremental revenues as a result of partnering with leading media and technology organizations in North and South America. This individual will be tasked with taking the successful Weather Platform product and partnership template established in the US to new territories globally. Primary goals include identifying, forming and managing new partnerships in key target countries as well as and managing and developing existing programs and accounts that inform and shape our global, long term digital partnership strategy in mobile, data, content and advertising.
Specific Responsibilities
Develop and execute those partnerships that support the Weather Channel Platform’s content, distribution and advertising strategies.
Content and Distribution: secure material partnerships that grow audience to TWC weather data and video content with online, local media publishers and incumbent large digital audience aggregators prevalent / unique to a given country.
Advertising: secure material partnerships that permit TWC to monetize online and mobile advertising inventory generated through content and distribution partnerships. This includes securing relationships with leading in-country digital sales organizations that can optimize revenues against TWC hyper-local weather data and content.
Secure broad strategic relationships that contemplate partnering as both a distributor of weather data and content to consumers, as well as a reseller of digital local market advertising inventory associated with TWC weather content as a bundled package for local and regional advertisers.
Research and qualify potential partners, manage pipeline discussions, negotiate and execute agreements as required.
Own financial modeling and business case efforts to inform financial expectations, timing and expected results.
Research and make recommendation on new business and market opportunities including assessing opportunity, competitive positioning, resource requirements and keys to success.
Collaborate with product marketing to plan and organize MARCOM and outreach at industry tradeshows, symposiums, and meetings; work with product marketing to develop and execute plans as necessary.
Collaborate closely with Global Product and Ad Sales teams, Global BD counterparts and Atlanta HQ in order to implement and create partnerships that maximize long-term value for the business
Desired Skills and Experience
Education:
B.S. in a business discipline required, M.B.A. preferred
Qualifications:
Ability to be based in San Francisco required
7-10+ years digital media/mobile business development experience with at least 3-5 years working closely on partnership development initiatives with global or Americas region media and technology companies
Strong network of existing relationships with business development, product and/or marketing contacts at non-US based digital media and technology companies
Proven ability to achieve and exceed business development goals in highly technical and complex sales environments.
Strong understanding of America’s digital landscape with active engagement in industry workgroups and an established network.
Understanding of Americas technical and regulatory requirements as they relate to working in the digital media industry.
Demonstrable success in pursuing, capturing, and negotiating complex and high-value, digitally focused agreements with strategic partners.
Extensive working knowledge of digital media advertising business
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, plus the drive and initiative to overcome obstacles in a new and rapidly changing space
Fluency in other languages highly preferred, but not mandatory
Must be able to travel to key cities in North and South America
Highly motivated and self-directed with a strong business work ethic, positive attitude and professional demeanor.
Comfortable with constant and rapid change while also comfortable working very autonomously
