Director - Advertising Sales Strategy - Viacom - Midtown
Job description
The Director, Ad Sales Strategy, is a management position within the M/E Ad Sales Strategy group. The group analyzes market trends and identifies opportunities and tactics for revenue growth, both short and long term; and collaborates with the leadership team to make strategic choices in order to drive our business forward. The group is a key driver of change in the M/E Ad Sales organization, while fostering collaboration across Ad Sales and related groups, to drive revenue growth and future opportunities.
Along with the other Ad Sales Strategy Directors, the position manages a shared team of Analyst/ Senior Analyst, to deliver the various Strategy projects; and work with all internal groups to build, communicate and implement the recommendations.
Responsibilities
Strategy and Product:
Develop quantitative and qualitative analyses, insights, and recommendations for our business and the broader marketplace in an effort to drive business forward
Prepare business cases and financial models that demonstrate the value of new opportunities.
Draw conclusions and establish key takeaways/next steps once opportunities are identified
Bring significant contribution to the development and maintenance of the long term growth strategy for VMN M&E, under the direction of SVP and EVP of Strategy
Support upper management in the development of analysis and presentations related to new opportunities, Budget, Upfront planning and other ad hoc requests
Develop logical, structured presentations, telling a clear story with hypotheses, analysis, findings, recommendations; writing, iterating the slides/ document.
Assess and develop new business opportunities in traditional and emerging media
In collaboration with SVP and EVP, develop and institute effective and efficient processes and templates for development of Strategy deliverables and team/ project management
Research and summarize massive amounts of data from multiple sources, into informative Executive summaries; typically with Analysts support, but also independently
Management:
Manage projects as assigned by EVP and SVP; deliver the analyses, decks, recommendations from these projects
Assign duties to the Analysts/ Managers for the relevant projects, while remaining ultimately responsible for the final product
Develop our team - act as a role model for the Analysts, answer questions, coach them, support them with their career development
Communication:
Articulate stories behind presentation clearly and succinctly to given audience
Present in an insightful and professional manner to VMN executives, as appropriate
Lead conference calls and/or training sessions as appropriate
Apply knowledge and resourcefulness in obtaining needed data from multiple sources - both from internal systems across Viacom as well as external data and sources. Understand the proper internal groups on point to provide key types of data (e.g., financials, ratings, etc.)
Collaboration:
Work with Ad Sales Teams to:
Develop and implement client strategies and initiatives per assigned responsibilities
Develop new ways/approaches to generate more revenue
Work convergently across digital and linear as it relates to the overall growth strategy
Work with cross-functional teams as needed on select projects, including but not limited to digital and linear ad sales, integrated marketing, research and business intelligence/P&I
Interact with and develop relationships internally to be able to approach all topics convergently
Leadership
Demonstrate knowledge and passion for advertising, sales, media & entertainment.
Develop self in the areas of business strategy, analysis, organizational change, project management.
Monitor the advertising, marketing, and media/tech industry for key trends to formulate projections both short and long term— always stay current
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required. MBA highly preferred
5 to 7 years work experience in the media (digital or traditional), entertainment or advertising industries in similar or related position; and/ or covering those industries in investment banking or management consulting
Desired Skills and Experience
Additional Qualifications
Proficiency in key frameworks for strategic analysis - for example, competitive analysis, market/ industry trends summaries, key financial ratios, SWOT analysis, hypotheses development, data-driven business analysis and problem solving
Proficiency in basic frameworks for analysis of organizations and processes - structure, efficiency, process optimization, training needs, competency definitions and other
Advanced quantitative/ Excel skills - building financial models, market data summaries and trends, understanding of financial statement analysis. Ability to perform detailed Excel analysis when needed
Solid experience and skills in storytelling/ presentation development; advanced PowerPoint skills
Outstanding project management and time management skills, comfortable working under tight deadlines
Outstanding interpersonal capabilities and ability to interface with COO & SVP level
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Comfortable working on projects involving multiple functional groups; experience managing such projects
Knowledge how to utilize subscription resources like Lexus Nexus, Forrester, TNS, etc., as well as general online research sources
