Finance Director - Aramark - Los Angeles


Job description
Reporting to the ARAMARK Uniform Services (AUS) Chief Financial Officer (CFO) (with a “dotted line” reporting to the West Regional Vice President), the FINANCE DIRECTOR is a consultative business partner, inside and outside the Region. Collectively, AUS’ Finance organization is approximately 500 people including 9 Finance Directors, 55 Controllers, a Shared Services group, and a corporate group.


The FINANCE DIRECTOR is directly responsible for ensuring the consistency, relevance, reliability, and comparability of the Region’s financial reporting and forecasting by developing, directing, and reviewing the finance organization at a Regional and Market Center (MC) level. In addition, the position provides vision and guidance to the workflow of the Region’s finance organization including: staffing, policy compliance, internal/external customer service, and staff level functions.

Plan, direct, and organize the accurate and timely reporting and forecasting of financial information for all MC’s in the Region. Prepare relevant and accurate information for presentation at meetings, as well as, research and resolve accounting/financial issues for the Region.
Supervise the Region’s Controllers, the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager, and other Regional finance employees to ensure that all are performing their job responsibilities, while also training, developing, and motivating these employees for their future success.
Assist the Controllers in the recruitment, development, evaluation, and motivation of their Market Center finance organizations.
Maintain focus on providing outstanding customer service to internal and external customers within the Region. This includes driving contract compliance, billing accuracy, and timely/comprehensive collection of outstanding A/R balances. Partner with and support the efforts of Financial Shared Services to enhance the productivity of the organization and the customer service experience.
Responsible for maintaining proper internal controls (including SOX compliance) and enforcement of AUS policies and procedures throughout the Market Centers in the Region.
Interact, support, and partner with the Regional Vice President, General Managers, and Controllers on operational/financial reviews or issues within the region.
Evaluation of processes and procedures to gain efficiencies and cost savings by driving continuous improvement of the finance organization; utilizing standardization, simplification, and automation when possible.
Periodically participate in, and sometimes lead, enterprise-wide cross-functional project teams to help the organization define, design, implement and roll out standardized processes.
Key partner to facilitate cross-pollination of best practices. Share and solicit best practices from other finance colleagues. Adopt and implement those practices inside the Region.
Key partner to resolve complex issues, by providing appropriate expertise, and through a collaborative approach with the other Finance Directors and other company staff.
Key finance leader who helps insure the collective organization is maintaining proper internal controls. Establish and enforce company policy and procedures.
Ad-hoc analysis.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Desired Skills and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field is required.
A minimum of ten to twelve years’ experience in an accounting and finance management position.
Must be able to manage a team of eight direct reports and fifty employees within the region.
CPA preferred.
Expert level Excel and access skills are required.
Deep understanding and experience of key operational accounting and finance concepts (debit & credits, measuring and managing product margins, measuring and managing the underlying cost drivers of a P&L, key financial ratios, etc.).
Considerable skills in preparing forecasts, controlling costs and maximizing profits, and producing accurate reports.
Previous experience in a Controller position in a plant environment preferred.
Strong analytical and process management skills.
Strong change management skills required.
Proven experience at successfully developing and strengthening management controls and financial reporting packages.
Strategic agility with the ability to move from the senior level to the back office clerical level.
Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate business trends.
Change oriented. Seasoned and flexible, with a high level of maturity.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proven ability to be very hands-on and can roll up your sleeves and provide continuous support to the day-to-day operation.
Strong Financial Planning & Analysis skills and experience. Must be up to speed on various technical finance skills (accurate modeling techniques, internal controls, measuring the business through quantitative and qualitative metrics, various top-down and bottom-up model building methods, etc.).
Strong knowledge of accounting. Solid grasp of debits & credits. Understands the mechanics behind a balance sheet and cash flow statement. Solid understanding of key accounting concepts (revenue recognition rules, expense recognition rules, accounting for commitments and contingencies, etc.).
Superior interpersonal skills. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
Ability to communicate and work with cross-functional teams and all levels in the organization.
Ability to handle multiple priorities from many levels of management.
Results-oriented to ensure delivery of financial reports and services in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion.
Strong skills and ability to handle large amounts of data. Position requires the ability to pull, compile, filter through and format large amounts of data (from proprietary system environments) to synthesize key findings, draw out conclusions, and present the data in a format that is understandable to senior management.
Strong analytical and process management skills.
Strong operational orientation and organizational consensus building skills. Able to manage relationships at all levels, from the lowest level of the organization to Senior Management level constituents.
Excellent presentation skills before small and large groups.
Strong self-directed organizational skills to organize time effectively and prioritize on daily and weekly basis.
Ability to enhance the level of business and analysis conducted throughout the organization through leadership, coaching and questioning.

Must be open to 50% of periodic travel in and outside of the West region.
