Director - Compensation and US Benefits - AMEC - Atlanta

Job description
Role Overview:
The Director, Compensation and US Benefits will provide leadership in the design, implementation, communication, administration and compliance of all active employee benefit and post-retirement programs. This includes developing efficient and effective programs that fit both employee needs and the strategic needs of the organization. You will work with our HR leaders at each operating unit to ensure AMEC’s benefit and retirement programs remain competitive, innovative, compliant and cost-effective.


Key Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Provide leadership, pro-active planning and skilled management to overall design, implementation, communication, and administration activities of the company’s compensation, retirement and health and welfare benefit programs.
Partner with internal and external partners to provide strategic direction on compensation and benefit programs using expertise and working knowledge of legal and regulatory environment, investment and broker fees, claims analysis, utilization mix dynamics, rates/pricing, network discounting, accruals, payroll burden planning, and budgeting.
Use knowledge of market trends to project future needs of the business and identify new and innovative ways to achieve those needs
Evaluate, review and analyze health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance offerings as well as wellness and employee assistance plan design and administration processes to provide strategic direction for improvement.
Participate in compensation and benefits survey and benchmarking programs to assure competitiveness and to ensure compensation and benefits offered are competitive. Collect, assess and report on plan/program participation and cost data as required
Manage benefit renewals and negotiations for new and existing plans
Analyze compensation and benefit plans of potential acquisitions. Manage acquisition, merger, integration, and divestiture activities as necessary.
Provide leadership and support in day to day operations.  Operate as a “working director”, who is involved in all levels of detail of the function in order to effectively manage and lead, as well as provide process improvement guidance and team leadership
Manage the operation of fiduciary committees, investment committees and claims appeals processes
Ensure the resolution of  all operational problems that arise between vendors, internal resources and plan participants
Manage, develop and mentor team to create best practices and create positive work environment; ensure professional growth opportunities and succession planning.
Ensure through audits, reports and personal contacts that benefits programs are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations.  Manage DOL audits as required. Compliance and regulatory reporting and testing required by PPACA, HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, and IRC Section 125

Desired Skills and Experience
Role Requirements:
Benefit professional (CEBS, CBP, or other) designation would be an asset
Undergraduate Degree (Business, Finance or Human Resources degree preferred)
Minimum 10 years experience in employee compensation, benefits / retirement department of a large and/or complex organization in a managerial capacity required
Experience administering all aspects of employee compensation and benefits programs including health, wellness, disability, retirement, FMLA, etc.  Experience working with defined benefit plans would be an asset
Knowledge of PPACA, HIPAA, ERISA, and COBRA and their associated regulations as well as benefits related IRC such as Section 125 cafeteria plans
Proven background as an effective strategist and practitioner with a solid track record of successfully implementing benefit/retirement/wellness programs and initiatives
Must have proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships and working in a matrix organization
Strong analytical skills
Strong project management skills
Strong business acumen and ability to translate the needs of the core business function into solutions
Travel may be required
