Vice President - Application Engineering - Deutsche Bank - Raleigh-Durham


Job description

The VP, Applications Engineering, residing in Cary will be responsible to take the lead on application technical and current vendor oversight, and build a team (VPs and AVPs) in Cary to
- Repatriate vendor intellectual capital
- Formalize release management
- Tackle environment and capacity management issues
- Build MarkLogic expertise (co-shared with DSS:Storm project)
- Address data quality issues (co-shared with DSS storm project)
- Begin tackling technical development backlog using SCRUM
- Understand Swaps reporting and other programs / onboarding dependency on Tradestore

The VP, Applications Engineering is accountable for the IT Application Lifecycle ensuring that applications are brought to life, enhanced and maintained in accordance with the requirements of the ‘paying customer’ and other stakeholders. Management responsibilities can include line management of staff as well as greater breadth of responsibility across or applications.

Areas of Specialty
Creation of the Platform Management and Application Engineering organization capable of delivering, evolving, and supporting the platform for dbTradeStore globally.
Application Tier - Management of the Engineering of Configuration, Deployment, and Operational Monitoring of all application components including application services and components, entitlement services, and various middleware components with associated documentation
Database Tier - Management of the Engineering of Configuration, Deployment and Operational Monitoring of all database components with particular emphasis on the MarkLogic XML data store with associated documentation
Job Management - Engineering Design, Development, and Operational Management of Job Streams and Utility Services across the entire application, database, and infrastructure landscape including scripts, run books and operations guides with associated documentation
Application Monitoring and Control - Engineering of monitoring of application stability and performance across the application, database,and job environments and knowledge transfer to the appropriate operations personnel with appropriate tooling (e.g. Geneos) and documentation
Environment Management - Design, Configuration, Deployment and Operations of the environment instances for development, integration, quality assurance, production, disaster recovery environments in cooperation with the appropriate IT infrastructure and operations groups
Application Engineering Support - Support for service requests, configuration management, problem and change management, release management, and business continuity management within the appropriate ITIL frameworks in use in the bank.

- A deep-seated understanding of agile principles including Storyboarding, Product back log management, task management and prioritization.
- Experienced technologist with strong understanding of Client Server technologies, high-volume transaction processing

-Database Performance, Middleware and Security
-Development tools – Eclipse, Ant, Maven, Visual Studio
-Platforms: Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, All browsers

Experience/Exposure:
- Experience in Engineering, User Experience Design, Cognitive Design, Professional Services, Application Marketing, and Sales can be of significant value in this role
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence others by persuasion rather than authority
- Proficient speaking and presentation skills
- Experience working with other areas of the company such as Finance, Sales, Marketing and Executive Management
- Experienced at prioritizing and looking at the big picture (key problem to be solved), without becoming caught up in details
- Open minded and empathetic (with customers and users)
- Ability to work in fast paced environments
- Ability to prioritize to move work forward, while juggling (daily) urgent requests
- Passion about sharing knowledge and best practice
- Proven managerial experience
- Ability to work in virtual teams and in matrix structures
- Experience and interest in working with multiple locations
- Proven Project Management and People management capability
- Fluent in English (written/verbal)

Experience and Education:
- Significant experience managing development projects
- 10+ years lead/technical manager role
- Undergraduate Degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent diploma / work experience)
- Profound analytical skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, fluent in English
- Ability to work in virtual teams and in matrix structures in a fast paced environment
