Director - Media Planning - MEC - New York

In this position …
You’ll be one of our Client’s most valued business partners and assume responsibility for ensuring the Client meets respective business goals. You’ll provide strategic guidance and thought leadership within the media group to deliver the most effective and innovative Communications Plans. You’ll develop the career paths of supporting planning staff, as well as play an integral role in supporting and delivering MEC values and goals on a daily basis. You will effectively leverage experience, knowledge and skills to encourage innovative thinking and set challenging team goals and objectives balancing client, company and team needs.
You will be accountable for:
Strategy and Plan Development & Maintenance
Advise on all Communications matters that fall within scope of agency assignment
Oversee and approve Communications strategy for client businesses
Ensure that recommendations and decisions are consistent with client’s marketing/advertising objectives and strategies
Assume lead role in integration of Client’s media efforts
Assume ultimate responsibility for all media implemented
Oversee responses to all requests and unforeseen problems and deal with issues that require senior level attention due to their complexity
Render final decision on new media opportunities from an overall perspective to determine appropriateness and soundness of idea and/or company
Provide advice and counsel to all members of the media and product groups on all matters
Responsible for quality control of stewardship by support and buying groups
Manage worldwide planning resources in the U.S. and abroad, if applicable
Oversee media financial management profitability of all Client accounts
Advise and direct planning staff regarding insightful and strategic points-of-view
Manage MEC planning and buying resources, and other partner agencies if applicable
Management & Leadership
Develop and nurture ongoing partnerships with key Clients, especially at the senior level
Support training of media staff and recommend actions to manage individual career paths
Train direct reports in media and marketing disciplines as well as in the specifics of the client’s business and industry, and most importantly, leadership
Coordinate the work of MEC resource groups, industry groups and the media
Act with high integrity while maintaining positive, open relationships with media partners and suppliers
Serve as a role model to all those with whom you come into contact
Foster an environment that inspires, encourages intelligent risk taking, innovation and creativity
Participate in Agency / departmental task forces, project work and new business
Keep abreast of current events in target markets that impact Client’s business(es)
Exhibit passion and ambition by keeping informed regarding media trends, technologies and new media opportunities, and educating your team and agency partners accordingly
Maintain knowledge base regarding the advertising business in the broadest concept
Organize internal or off-site events for the media and/or products groups to better understand media consumption and provide a forum to discuss business-building opportunities
Assist in networking, interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring, developing, and evaluating team members
Desired Skills and Experience
Our Requirements
7+ years of related media/communications planning experience, with focus on team leadership and management
Possess superior project and account management skills, flexibility, resiliency, and the ability to manage multiple expectations through proactive communication, status reporting and scope management
Highly skilled at developing and driving media and account strategy
Demonstrate proven success leading and growing client business
Consistently act as industry and agency Leader as defined via ONE MEC’s Leadership attributes
Appropriately and openly participate in team, agency, and industry initiatives
Decisively manage multidisciplinary teams, and possess a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
Continually seek and identify innovative and breakthrough ideas, approaches and solutions
Own and demonstrate superior understanding of media fundamentals, conceptual math, and quantitative skills, including analytical abilities and math proficiency
Demonstrate sharp, strategic thinking and effective problem solving skills
Superior, clear verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate genuine curiosity and interest in our clients & their business
Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in advertising, marketing, business administration, and/or communications preferred
Digitally savvy, with specific proficiency at MS Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
