Hobsons is seeking a talented and energetic Senior Director of Product Development to join our growing K-12 Product Development team in our Arlington, VA office. The Senior Director of Product Development will drive the strategic direction of the team and will be accountable for the productivity, development execution and ensuring the right framework, collaboration and discipline is in place for a high performance team that leverages best practices for software development and delivers quality solutions on time. This leader will oversee a 20-person team that develops a market-leading SaaS application, which is built on an open source LAMP architecture. We are seeking candidates that have an established track record of establishing an efficient, accountable and forward-thinking development organization and have the ability to inspire and motivate a team of software developers and engineers.

This position will be located in our Arlington, VA office.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Provide management and mentoring for a team of software engineers working within an agile development process
Ensure that engineering works collaboratively and closely with product management and maintains a customer-­‐centric approach
Develop team skills and drive increased use of best practices and cutting-­‐edge techniques/patterns in web application development
Drive team momentum to accomplish an ambitious roadmap of new development initiatives
Ensure that ongoing maintenance to the existing product line is handled expediently through close coordination with the services team
Increase speed and quality through the implementation of better engineering practices
Stay current on technology trends and identify ways to innovate our products in the education space

Desired Skills and Experience
5+ years experience in engineering leadership roles, managing both onshore and offshore engineers
Experience working in fast-­‐paced and changing environment that required flexibility, creativity and risk-­‐taking
Strong technical knowledge of web-­‐based application technologies
Track record of delivering enterprise software, preferably Saas applications
Experience with high-­‐traffic applications that are database intensive
Strong knowledge of scalability and security in web-­‐based environments
Knowledge of PHP or Java, MySQL, HTML, and CSS is required
Experience with Agile/Lean methods and continuous integration is required
