VP - Technology Architecture - CBS Corporation - New York
Job description
CBS seeks a VP; Technology Architecture. This key senior member of the I.T. leadership team will lead the Technology Architecture area, which is a foundational element of the Enterprise Architecture and Planning team. This lead role requires performing deep analysis of current state architectures with the goal of deriving potential future state CBS infrastructure technology strategies, and overseeing the realization of these future state architectures with the goal of advancing the company’s competitive advantage in the marketplace. Working closely with the other Architecture areas, business and CBS I.T. leadership, this person will provide analysis that will guide decisions and will ensure that the businesses are supported with the highest levels of efficiency through enablement of these systems architectures. The VP, Technology Architecture is a skilled, experienced architect who is an expert in the Infrastructure domain and possesses proficiency across most, if not all, of the domains and disciplines of Enterprise Architecture. This role will report directly to the VP of Enterprise Architecture and will entail having day-to-day contact with all levels of CBS I.T. staff, as well as with supported business customers and vendors.
Responsibilities:
• Provides strong, hands-on technology architect expertise to ensure that the Enterprise Architecture supports and aligns with business initiatives, objectives, processes and technology strategy.
• Conceptualizes infrastructure technology solutions; develops, creates and presents the associated 3-to-5 year roadmaps.
• Designs, develops, documents and socializes architecture frameworks, reference models, and reference architectures in partnership with the associated technology stakeholders.
• Provides research and thought leadership to improve company profitability; delivered in the form of position papers and roadmaps.
• Performs risk analysis and crafts mitigation strategies; develops business cases to present ROI and justify technology investments.
• Provides technical leadership in the evaluation of vendors’ products and prepares recommendations via a formal assessment, review and selection process.
• Responsible for oversight of the Enterprise Architecture Lab which serves as the seedbed for new technologies in the enterprise, via execution of proofs of concept, vendor evaluations, systems integrations and upgrade validation testing.
• Leads all efforts to define technical standards, tools, and platforms for the enterprise and has overall responsibility for ensuring that the infrastructure domains in the Technology Reference Model (TRM) are maintained by the assigned technology owners.
• Translates business requirements into viable and sustainable technology solutions
• Conducts technology reviews, research, and mentors/assists IS&T teams with all new technology introductions.
• Works with the various Enterprise Infrastructure Services teams to develop detailed documentation and architecture guidebooks used in the process of system engineering and build execution efforts by these operations teams, to ensure that compliance with enterprise standards is fully met.
• Builds partnerships with the Solution Delivery Executives and Business Analysts.
• Provides clear, consistent, project status and regular communication with all project stakeholders at all levels, including presentations to senior management, creating agendas, status reports and meeting minutes.
• Ensures all project requirements and/or objectives are properly documented; participates in the formal Design Review Board process as a voting member.
• Ensures proper post-implementation architectural support, review and system performance evaluation to ensure business requirements have been met.
• Creates prescriptive architecture artifacts to document current and future architecture patterns and related conceptual architectures.
• Defines target Enterprise Architectures that promote reliability, maintainability, scalability, and flexibility based on business needs, technical architecture requirements and industry best practices.
• Undertakes contract and price negotiation with vendors for software licensing, professional services, maintenance and training.
• Well-rounded, highly refined technologist with more than eight (8) years of past I.T. operations and engineering experience from either a top management consultancy or a similar role in a blue chip company.
• At least two (2) years of experience leading a Technology Architecture practice - progressively responsible leadership experience with comprehensive experience in technology strategy, architecture, engineering and EA processes.
• In-depth working technical knowledge of current enterprise systems software, network protocols and converged network architectures, server and blade server technologies, virtualization/consolidation strategies/platforms, data center best practices, and technology standards employed in large corporate enterprises.
• Deep knowledge of cloud computing concepts and implementations.
• Experience implementing Architecture governance and strategic roadmaps at the enterprise level.
• Hands-on experience developing architecture blueprints, systems diagrams, network diagrams, data models (logical and physical), process flows, data flows, and other key enterprise architecture deliverables (use/mastery of MS Visio essential).
• Proven experience and record of leading large transformation projects, enterprise-wide systems implementations or improvement efforts.
• Technical competency in the areas of data collection, information storage and retrieval, content management and delivery, emerging and disruptive technologies.
• Strong intellect, able to deal with complex and ambiguous situations.
• Well-honed writing, presentation creation, documentation, finance and analytical skills (samples of writing/documentation will be required and high degree of competency/mastery of the MS Office suite is essential).
• Experience developing, creating and presenting business cases for justifying and obtaining technology investments.
• Proven leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate and build trusted relationships with all levels of staff and external contacts.
• Displays strong presentation skills with the talent to present and influence diverse audiences on business initiatives and strategies.
• Able to prioritize workload and work under pressure and deadlines.
• Demonstrated track record of leading high-performance teams toward the successful attainment of challenging goals.
• Experience working across boundaries and cultures an advantage, ability to navigate the corporate hierarchy and deal with issues of a political nature are essential.
• Ability to influence team members without direct authority, and effective at establishing working relationships.
• Track record for remaining unbiased toward any specific technology or vendor; and being more interested in results than personal preferences.
• Must have facilitation skills and the ability to guide a debate without forcing a conclusion.
• Demonstrated understanding at a high level of one or more industry-standard architecture frameworks, such as TOGAF, Zachman, DODAF, FEAF, Gartner/Meta, etc. is required.
• At least two (2) years of experience in a resource management role (small team)
• General knowledge of applicable Regulatory requirements and data privacy practices and laws (SOX, PCI, etc.).
• Ability to analyze operational data to make fact based decisions that improve the business.
• Capacity to plan and accomplish goals with a significant degree of innovation and creativity.
• Possess strong persuasive, influencing and negotiation skills.
Educational Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or equivalent experience in computer operations, system analysis, programming, project implementations or technical management.
• Experience within the entertainment industry.
• Certification in one or more industry-standard architecture frameworks.
• Training or certification in organization change management.
• MBA or other advanced degree.
