Director - Technology - Music Platforms - Viacom - New York

Job description
As Director of Technology you will be responsible for the technical development and management of the MTV Artist Platform: providing artists the tools they need to get fans, get exposure and get paid. In addition this position supports other music-related initiatives supporting the MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo brands.
The ideal candidate has experience building polished consumer-oriented applications that consume and display data from a wide variety of APIs and data sources.This position reports to the Viacom Music group VP of Technology.
Responsibilities include:
Overseeing the technical architecture and development of the MTV Artist Platform and related projects.
Leading a team of engineers responsible for the development, support and maintenance of the Artist Platform.
Collaborating with the Product Development group in refining business requirements and planning new products and product enhancements.
Working with the Project Management group to plan and organize releases.
Collaborating with the senior technical team to ensure applications are reliable, maintainable and perform well.
Managing the integration of both internal and third-party-provided components and services.
Evaluating, recommending and providing technical oversight of vendors when applicable.
Defining technical standards and best practices for the group.

Desired Skills and Experience
Basic Qualifications:
8+ years of relevant experience
Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
A full-stack understanding of how a modern web application works
Demonstrated ability to manage complex applications that consume and interact with a variety of data services
Expertise in relational database design and queries
Demonstrated experience managing a team of engineers
Excellent communication skills when working with other teams and stakeholders
Capable of understanding business objectives and able to translate business goals into technical design
Creative problem solving is valued very highly
Must have an excellent eye for evaluating engineering potential/talent
Possesses knowledge of contemporary and emerging front-end techniques and technologies, especially in regards to supporting mobile and small screen devices
Experience with SCRUM or another agile software development methodology
Experience working with and managing third party vendors who may be involved in the build out of a given application
