Director - Strategic Supply Chain Development - Primus Power - San Francisco


Job description
We are seeking an experienced professional to lead strategic supply chain development for highly engineered components used in our revolutionary EnergyCell flow battery. You will use your engineering and business skills to develop best-in-class suppliers that can scale with exceptional quality at competitive cost. You must enjoy working in a fast paced startup company environment where creativity, speed, initiative and cross-functional teamwork are required to succeed.

Job Responsibilities
Work with current suppliers to develop and execute to a cost reduction, quality improvement and capacity increase roadmap to achieve business objectives
Identify world class sources for strategic commodities
Engage with these suppliers at an executive level to establish long term strategic relationships
Work with the suppliers’ Engineering, Operations and Quality teams to develop and qualify components that meet quality specifications and cost targets
Work with suppliers’ Engineering, Operations and Quality teams to ensure scale up per the agreed upon cost/quality/capacity roadmaps
Use your in-depth commodity, market and supplier knowledge to negotiate most favorable pricing
Negotiate terms of agreements (e.g., Supply Agreement, Joint Development Agreement) with the suppliers
Manage the suppliers on an ongoing basis to ensure supply continuity, inventory targets, target cost, required capacity and high quality using score cards and QBRs.
Travel ~30% of time to suppliers
Build and lead a team of supply chain professionals to execute above responsibilities

Desired Skills and Experience
BS in Materials Science or Metallurgy or other related discipline, MBA a plus
7-15 years of broad supply chain experience in fabricated specialty metal components, catalysts, chemicals
Executive presence and comfort in dealing with supplier’s executive management
Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial, hands on spirit
Strong team player who can work with all levels and functions within the company and at suppliers
Experienced in contract negotiations, strategic sourcing, and supplier relationship management
Experienced in preparing “should-cost” estimates
Ability to work with suppliers and own team to develop and execute a target cost roadmap
Outstanding verbal communication, presentation, project management and relationship building skills
Strong technical and analytical skills to dive into details if necessary
Experience in ERP, materials management, logistics management and Quality a plus
Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
