Position Overview
Reporting to the VP/General Manager of our Design to Silicon (D2S) product division, the Director - Product Engineering will be a key member of the senior management team for the Calibre suite of EDA tools. This individual will manage multiple Quality Assurance and Build/Release Teams located at Mentor Graphics R&D centers around the world.
Responsibilities will focus on three main areas:
1)Manage the divisional Quality Assurance Teams
*Drive an objective feedback process on critical product quality metrics.
*Define and manage cross product flow testing.
*Drive the continued development of test case automation and change management.
*Coordinate internationally distributed organization.
*Ensure the continued reputation of Calibre as the highest quality tool in the EDA industry
2)Manage the Build and Release Team
*Drive continued development and deployment of "always ported, always working" build system.
*Maintain oversight and management of over 8500 core high performance compute center
*Manage Hardware evaluations to track new processor technologies and develop customer facing recommendations
*Manage interfaces to corporate release team, legal, customer support, facilities and IT as single integration point for division.
3)Participate as a divisional staff member
*Manage internal operational issues and their coordination with the General Manager and the position's peers - Directors of Product Marketing, Customer Service, and Product Development Engineering. Examples include:
*Researching division-wide issues and helping to drive agreements on how the issues are framed and how the success of the solutions are measured.
*Measuring improvements in managing release contents, driving and following up on post-mortem commitments, removing barriers to hardware access and automated testing to the larger Calibre community, coordinating with IT on clustered server management, promoting project management improvements, and driving test driven design initiatives.
*Overseeing and reviewing the effectiveness of the annual focal review process, local office space assignments, product team reviews, project management initiatives, release coordination prioritization conflicts, and cross team interdependency management. issues and remove roadblocks
Job Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
*BS Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field. MS Degree is preferred.
*12+ years of experience managing engineering and/or product engineering teams with proven leadership and hands on management skills
*8+ years of experience managing large distributed software development projects
*Must provide demonstrable business orientation and awareness within a large corporation
*Must have demonstrated success in effectively managing within a highly matrixed environment as part of a global organization in a fast paced team environment
*Ability to engage in a leadership role with customers and internal stakeholders to promote the deployment of new technology, processes, and systems solutions
*Proven track record of delivering projects on time with high quality
*In-depth knowledge of quality assurance practices
*Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 50% travel at times).
*Excellent English communication skills; both verbal and written
