Data Governance Director - Banco Santander - Boston
Job description
The Data Governance Director reports to the Chief Data Officer and is responsible for implementing the strategies, vision and management processes to effectively govern the bank's enterprise data including the establishment of enterprise data governance, data policies and standards and the implementation of clearly defined data definitions for use across the bank.
The Data Governance Director will also be charged with implementing standardized governance "tools" including business requirements documents, data lineage work flows, data definition formats, etc. for use across the bank by all key stakeholders.
This position will maintain data quality related standards, policies and procedures to minimize risk derived from bad data and to ensure the bank's finance, risk and compliance data meets following characteristics, including but not limited to: accuracy, validity, reliability, timeliness, relevance and completeness.
Define enterprise data strategy, vision, roadmap and standards.
Develop and maintain data flow architecture for various lines of business / projects within organization.
Set formal standards, policies and processes regarding data management.
Ensure there is a consistent standard data dictionary and data definition for each data subject.
Review and sign off projects, solution design, and change requests for alignment with long-term data strategy.
Confirming Adherence to the data quality checklist as part of the standard `work break down structure' for any project in the end of analysis/design and project completion phase.
Create, manage and facilitate a Data Policy Governance process to identify and understand the critical data issues in terms of business impact/risk/opportunity and ensure data policy enforcement and compliance.
Create metrics to measure data quality targets and conduct policy reviews to ensure procedures and metrics are effective.
Establish Data Stewards for each data subject and coordinate them to achieve defined goals within the CDO unit.
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering or Information Systems.
MBA or other related graduate level degree desirable.
7 to 10 years' experience in enterprise data management at a major financial institution.
Extensive experience in establishing and successfully leading Data Governance programs: heavy emphasis on developing and implementing data standards, policies, practices, and procedures that lead to substantive improvements in data integrity.
Proven ability to coordinate cross functional teams of IT professionals, business executives, and other key stakeholders towards common goals and objectives.
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify quantify and effectively raise business risks associated with data quality.
Profiency in Excel , PowerPoint and Visio.
Demonstrated success in leadership role and vision. Flexible and has a wide range of expertise.
Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external constituencies.
