VP - Operations - Accident & Health - AXIS Capital - New York


Job description

The VP of Operations for US Accident and Health is a key leadership role in the US Insurance Division, the North American Reinsurance Division and within the worldwide Accident & Health Segment. As part of the US A&H Operating Committee, this role will contribute to the development and execution of the US A&H Strategy.

This leader will be responsible for and manage functional areas including Premium Accounting and Budgeting, Policy Administration, Distribution Support and Producer Licensing. The incumbent is responsible for scheduling and ensuring that Management Audits are performed of key third party partners. This individual will provide guidance and counsel to the US A&H CEO on business transactions, new opportunities, expense planning and operational efficiencies.

This leader is the key interface with A&H Finance, Operational Risk and Informational Technology teams. While day-to-day activities may be managed locally in a remote office, this leader is expected to ensure that strategies are developed, followed and sustained across the enterprise. This individual will provide guidance and counsel to the US A&H CEO on business transactions, new opportunities, expense planning and operational efficiencies.

This role reports directly to the CEO US Accident & Health with additional responsibilities to the NA Reinsurance Division and the A&H Segment, primarily the A&H Worldwide COO, in a federated management model. The US A&H Insurance VP Operations is expected to balance activities to meet both divisional and segment needs. The estimated division of the activities is roughly 80% divisional and 20% segment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Non-Financial:

Manage key segment and corporate relationships within AXIS Capital
Oversee and provide guidance to all functional leads reporting into this role.
Execute operating plans for each functional area, especially Administration and Premium Accounting.
Play a key role in strategy and plan implementation.
Oversee management audits of key third party relationships
Provide leadership input on a broad range of strategic, operational and financial issues
Interface with worldwide A&H technology team and provide business vision and requirements for technology changes.

Financial:

Broad responsibility for the day-to-day financial accounting of US Insurance.
Report financial information effectively; ensures the integrity of financial statements and the safeguarding of assets.
Direct the development, recommendation and implementation of annual operating plan and financial budgets. Monitor progress and present financial metrics both internally and externally.

Desired Skills and Experience

Required Skills:

10-15 years of experience (A&H and/or Life industries preferred)
Strong leadership, communications, and influencing skills
Ability to work in a high growth, faced paced environment; work effectively across geographic and functional boundaries
Approximately 20% travel
A proven track record of success and experience in working with a matrix or federated organizational structure
