Job Overview
As a Senior Director of Software Engineering, you will utilize strong management and technical competencies to set objectives and develop strategies for the Software Engineering group. You will work with executive level management and have the opportunity to directly impact the success of the function in meeting Domo's goals. You will provide direction and leadership to subordinate level managers and engineering professionals focused on rapidly developing enhancements to existing products, as well as developing new products.
Key Responsibilities
Leads and grows an existing organization of development managers and engineers.
Manages and facilitates multiple development teams both local and remote to ensure software development efforts meet corporate quality objectives and launch targets.
Identifies both strategic opportunities and potential threats associated with emerging technologies and executes software development plans that ensure Domo’s product are best-of-breed.
Champions software development best practices within the organization including but not limited to the following areas: time-to-market, design, architecture, code re-use, performance, and quality.
Continuously appraises effectiveness of software development organization through objective metrics and charts course for improvement.
Prioritizes, directs and appraises the activities of development managers or project leads and developers.
Determines, justifies and obtains approval for project resources, personnel, and budget necessary for projects that meet Domo’s requirements.
Coordinates with product management, as well as test, documentation and product support management to ensure that the needs of all projects in the product line are met.
Collaborates with engineering leadership in other geographical locations on product development projects.
Assists product management by providing technical insight and judgment of feature/schedule/cost tradeoffs.
Ensures that product architecture and technology decisions support corporate strategies and future direction of the products.
Prioritizes and manages resource allocation for the products based on changing business priorities, direction and budget.
Manages morale of development organization; approves employee performance evaluations and development plans; and ensures consistency in all compensation actions for organization.
Ensures quality hiring practices in product areas.
Interacts with executive management on development issues.
Partners with business leadership to analyze, consult, drive, develop and oversee the delivery of new business applications and features, technology partnerships, and information projects which support key business objectives
Required Qualifications
10+ years of experience in a software leadership role at Director or VP level.
Extensive experience with enterprise software development and SaaS.
Proven track record of shipping high quality SaaS
Ability to see the big picture while focused on short-term objectives.
Experience across different facets of software development fields is key, ability to understand & architect large complex, fault tolerant systems is a must.
Must be technically up to date in the latest and greatest technologies, open source software, innovations, methodologies and online content.
Proven experience building highly scalable web systems.
Effective communication, organization, and decision making skills.
Ability to hire, motivate, retain and develop talent.
Successful track record of delivering revenue generating products to the market place.
Ability to play a cross functional role, interfacing with different functional teams and influence technical and project directions.
Bachelors in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience (Masters preferred).
