Group Director - Business Development and Global Alliances - Zoetis - Florham Park, New Jersey

Key responsibilities
Lead teams including Finance, Legal, Manufacturing, R&D, LA Business units and other support functions to identify, advance and execute business development transactions to support Zoetis growth targets.
Working closely with the area President for the Canada/Latin America region and the Sr VP of CDAS, develop Business Development and Strategic Alliance strategies for the Canada/Latin America region.
Analyze, coordinate and implement various Business Development activities designed to capture the most strategic growth opportunities and maximise profitability.
Supervise small team focused on identifying and executing transactions and alliances for Canada/Latin America. Team members will be located in countries within Canada/ Latin America region.
Identify, establish and manage Strategic Alliance relationships with academia, research and government institutions, as well as biotech research organizations and biotechnology companies in Canada and Latin America.
Manage the Canada/ Latin American component of the Strategic Alliances budget, and provide regular and timely input on activities impacting the global Business Development budget.
Collaborate with colleagues in CDAS to share information on Business Development /Strategic Alliances opportunities and activities with inter-regional and/or global relevance with the intent to expand business development and alliance opportunities to all relevant regions.
The successful candidate will be a member of the Canada & Latin America Leadership Team, as well as the CDAS Leadership Team.
Primary duties
Identifying, reviewing and assessing new product and technology license and acquisition opportunities and developing recommendations to the business and R&D.
Managing regional Business Development relationships to the benefit of regional and global business objectives and supporting the Zoetis research and commercial efforts through collaborative partnerships with academicexperts, research institutes and regional government agencies.
Identifying regional sources for collaboration and co-funding of research collaborations.
Contributing to the growth of the Zoetis business by sourcing opportunities from the Latin America (LA) region to support and expand VR&D research capabilities..
Working through established technical evaluation processes, evaluate and prioritize proposals for collaborative research; working with Legal, Finance and R&D to complete and manage collaborative agreements.
Work closely with line manager, department colleagues, Commercial teams and R&D to ensure that business and research collaborations undertaken in Canada and the LA region are aligned with the overarching Zoetis strategic plan, the CLAR regional strategy, and endorsed therapeutic area (TA) strategies.
Work with line manager to ensure that invoices and payments are made according to agreed timing and milestones and that all contractual obligations are met in a timely manner
Education
PhD or Masters in biological sciences, or DVM
MBA or Finance Masters
Must be fluent in English
Spanish or Portuguese would be highly complimentary
Experience
At least 5 years of experience in Business Development including M&A experience
Practical knowledge of animal industry developed over at least five years
Experience with technology assessment, alliances and acquisitions
Experience in negotiating contracts with third parties
A detailed understanding of research planning, experimental design, budget and contract management is essential, as well as strong strategic thinking
The demonstrated ability to establish and maintaining strong internal and external networks, collaborations and business relations is essential
Understanding of Latin American and/or Canadian academic and government institutions
An understanding of granting bodies and co-funding opportunities for publicly-funded Animal Health R&D in Latin America and/or Canada, familiarity with modern molecular and cell biology and experience in business management or marketing is preferred
